Temporal Variation in Irish Suicide Rates

Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior, 2004
Using Irish suicide data for the period 1990–1998, the independent effects of month and day adjusting for age, gender, and calendar year effects and distinguishing between holiday and working Mondays were assessed. The male suicide rate was significantly higher on working Mondays (+31%) and Saturdays (+14%), and during April, June, and August (+17 ...

Deterministic Temporal Variation

1990
I now consider what happens when the fixed matrix b of (2.1.2) is replaced by a deterministically varying sequence of matrices. This is a long-standing problem with Norton (1928), Coale (1957), and Lopez (1961) being the classical contributions. Golubitsky et al.

Temporal Variation in Adolescent Suicide Attempts

Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior, 1994
The purpose of this study was to examine the association between adolescent suicide attempts and temporal cycles in a multiethnic population. Medical records at two hospitals in the state of Hawaii were reviewed for all adolescents (ages 12–18) admitted for suicide attempts during the years 1987–1991.

Temporal Variations in Predictability

Journal of the Atmospheric Sciences, 1985
Those characteristics which most significantly contribute to temporal variations in error growth are presently examined in light of a large ensemble of predictability runs conducted in the course of a long equilibrium run in a two-level, nonlinear, quasi-geostrophic model which incorporates orography.

SPATIAL VARIATION IN ABUNDANCE CREATED BY STOCHASTIC TEMPORAL VARIATION

Ecology, 1997
A central question in ecology is explaining spatial variation in the abundance of species. Patterns of spatial variation in abundance can often be explained by spatial variation in the environment, including resource availability, climatic variables, and other factors that influence a species’ reproduction and survival. We show that spatial patterns in

Temporal variation in parasuicide among Singaporean Chinese

Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry, 1998
Objective: The aim of this study was to determine whether there is any temporal variation in the incidence of parasuicide within the Chinese community and, if possible, to correlate the findings with prevailing cultural and social influences. Method: All patients of Chinese origin referred to a teaching hospital in Singapore between 1990 and 1994 were

TEMPORAL VARIATION IN SUICIDE AND HOMICIDE

American Journal of Epidemiology, 1979
In this study of all of the violent deaths in the US over two years, clear monthly and daily variations were found. Suicide peaked in the Spring and Fall; homicide in July and December. Suicide was more common on Mondays; homicide on Saturdays and Sundays. Homicide was more common on national holidays, while suicide tended to be less common.

Spatial and Temporal Indoor Radon Variations

Health Physics, 1992
This paper examines the ability of standard radon measurement protocols to predict long-term radon concentrations in houses located in the upper Midwest. It was observed that: (1) significant radon variations can occur on a spatial scale as small as a single floor; (2) radon measurements that integrate for periods less than 3 mo are reliable only to ...

Temporal Variation of Mercury in Vegetation

Water, Air, & Soil Pollution, 1995
Temporal changes in the Hg content of balsam fir needles (Abies balsamea) and white spruce needles (Picea glauca) were monitored at a control site over two growing seasons. Results indicated a significant increase in the Hg content of needles of both species over the course of a growing season and from one year to the next.
