Exhaled Volatile Organic Compounds Identify Allergic Patients Among Individuals With Chronic Rhinitis

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
Exhaled decane and nonadecane discriminate allergic (AR + LAR) from non‐allergic (NAR + HC) subjects among individuals with chronic rhinitis. LAR patients display higher levels of exhaled nonadecane than NAR individuals at baseline. Subjects with FeNO≥ 25 ppb have higher levels of exhaled decane, nonanal, and styrene than individuals with FeNO < 25 ppb

Field Sampling Method for Quantifying Odorants in Humid Environments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Most air quality studies in agricultural environments use thermal desorption analysis for quantifying semivolatile organic compounds (SVOCs) associated with odor.

Identification and Quantification of Volatile Organic Compounds and Bioaerosols in the Conservation Processes of Guanche Mummies

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Guanche mummies, ancient inhabitants of the Canary Islands, represent a significant part of the historical heritage preserved at the Museum of Nature and Archaeology (MUNA) in Tenerife, Spain. These mummies, subjected to artificial conservation practices, are of great interest to conservators seeking to understand their mummification ...

A Micro-Preconcentrator Combined Olfactory Sensing System with a Micromechanical Cantilever Sensor for Detecting 2,4-Dinitrotoluene Gas Vapor

open access: yesSensors, 2015
Preventing unexpected explosive attacks and tracing explosion-related molecules require the development of highly sensitive gas-vapor detection systems.

Development of a parallel sampling and analysis method for the elucidation of gas/particle partitioning of oxygenated semi-volatile organics: a limonene ozonolysis study [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Measurement Techniques, 2012
The gas/particle partitioning behaviour of the semi-volatile fraction of secondary organic matter and the associated multiphase chemistry are key features to accurately evaluate climate and health impacts of secondary organic aerosol (SOA).

Stability of selected exhaled breath volatiles stored in Tenax® TA adsorbent tubes at −80 °C

open access: yesJournal of Breath Research
Abstract Preservation of the breath sample integrity during storage and transport is one of the biggest challenges in off-line exhaled breath gas analysis. In this context, adsorbent tubes are frequently used as storage containers for use with analytical methods employing gas chromatography with mass spectrometric detection.

Multiparasitism Resolves the Apparent Paradox of High Male Pheromone Investment Despite Frequent Within‐Host Mating in a Parasitoid

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
It is unknown why males of the parasitoid wasp Nasonia giraulti produce large amounts of a costly sex pheromone although they were long thought to mate with their females already before emergence within the host. Mated females do no longer respond to the pheromone.

An Optimized Adsorbent Sampling Combined to Thermal Desorption GC-MS Method for Trimethylsilanol in Industrial Environments

open access: yesInternational Journal of Analytical Chemistry, 2012
Trimethylsilanol (TMSOH) can cause damage to surfaces of scanner lenses in the semiconductor industry, and there is a critical need to measure and control airborne TMSOH concentrations. This study develops a thermal desorption (TD)-gas chromatography (GC)

Volatile metabolites associated with one aflatoxigenic and one nontoxigenic Aspergillus flavus strain grown on two different substrates

open access: yesPhytopathologia Mediterranea, 2009
Aflatoxigenic and non-toxigenic Aspergillus flavus strains were grown on corn and on peanut substrates. Microbial volatile organic compounds (MVOCS) were collected by trapping headspace volatiles using thermal desorption tubes (TDT) packed with Tenax® TA

Study of aquatic macrophytes in the wetlands on the territory of Vrachanski Balkan nature park [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
An overall study of the species composition and abundance of macrophytes in all open water bodies of a large protected territory was made for the first time in Bulgaria. Four high-mountain eutrophic lakes and the upper stretches of three rivers within
