Tendon Transfers for Tetraplegia
Hand Clinics, 2016It is estimated that 65% to 75% of patients with cervical spinal cord injuries could benefit from upper extremity tendon transfer surgery. The goals of surgery are to restore elbow extension, as well as hand pinch, grasp, and release. Patients who have defined goals, actively participate in therapy, and understand expected outcomes, appear to have the ...

Use of a Previously Repaired Tendon for Tendon Transfer
Journal of Hand Surgery, 1987A patient in whom a previously repaired flexor digitorum superficialis tendon was used for transfer to correct a claw deformity is described. I have found this to be possible under optimal conditions of tendon repair, thus providing the hand surgeon with another choice of donor material.

Tendon Transfers in the Treatment of Achilles' Tendon Disorders
Foot and Ankle Clinics, 2014The Achilles tendon is the strongest tendon in the human body and, as such, has its share of problems. Although many conditions affecting this tendon can be treated nonoperatively, surgical intervention is often necessary. Local, regional, distant, and allograft tendon can be used to supplement or enhance reconstruction or repair of the Achilles tendon.

Simulation of Tendon Transfer Surgery
Engineering in Medicine, 1985A biomechanical model is used to simulate a tendon transfer operation. The model predicts the required forces in twelve ankle muscles during standing and walking, and also the endurance time of the (instantaneous) posture. In particular, the mechanical effect of anterior transfer of the posterior tibial tendon of a patient with muscle paralysis due to

Tendon transfers as applied to tetraplegia
Hand Clinics, 2002The techniques of the tendon transfers that are used primarily for the functional rehabilitation of upper limbs in tetraplegia are described in this article. The restoration of active elbow extension can be obtained either by biceps-to-triceps or by deltoid-to-triceps transfers.

Application of Biomechanics to Tendon Transfers
Journal of Hand Therapy, 1995This article has focused on considerations important in the application of biomechanics to tendon transfers and has used an example protocol. Different surgeries require different protocols. What is most important is that specific protocols are used, and that they are both safe and effective.

Tendon Transfers for Tendon Injuries in the Upper Extremities
Orthopedic Clinics of North America, 1974Summary Tendon transfer is a useful procedure for restoring hand function in cases of tendon laceration or in tendon rupture resulting from rheumatoid disease. These procedures can be utilized on either the dorsal or the volar surface. There is greater versatility in tendon transfer on the dorsal surface than on the volar surface; this is true for ...
