The paper deal with migration ways of psammophilous Tenebrionidae and Scarabaeoidea of Ponto-Caspian region since the Pliocene. Reconstruction of genesis of the fauna is made after analyses of contemporary distribution.

Adaptive Significance of Nickel Hyperaccumulation by Plants
Metal hyperaccumulation may enhance plant fitness through multiple, non‐exclusive mechanisms, including elemental defense against herbivores and pathogens, altered pollinator interactions, and increased reproductive performance in metal‐rich soils. Metals may also affect plant–plant interactions via elemental allelopathy and improve stress tolerance ...

Notes on taxonomy and distribution of the subgenus Heloponotus Reitter, 1922, genus Odocnemis Allard, 1876 (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae), with a key to species and subspecies [PDF]
A brief review of the subgenus Heloponotus Reitter, 1922 (genus Odocnemis Allard, 1876) (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae: Helopini) is presented. This group was probably formed on the Crimean Peninsula, since the high diversity and endemism are observed here ...

Pests for Dinner: Dietary Composition of Insectivorous Bats in a Fragmented Tropical Dry Forest
Insectivorous bats are key predators of a wide array of arthropods, including species that act as disease vectors and pests, yet such ecological roles remain poorly studied in tropical regions. In this study, we aimed to describe the diet of five insectivorous bat species from the genera Balantiopteryx, Myotis, Mormoops, and Pteronotus inhabiting a ...

Phenotypic Matching Without Genetic Correlation in Dimorphic Legs of Bulb Mites
We tested for male dimorphism in the weapon‐like third legs and putative compensatory fourth legs of the bulb mite Rhizoglyphus echinopus. Although males with thicker third legs tended to have longer fourth legs, neither trait predicted fighting success, and the correlation was phenotypic but not genetic.

Abstract Thermophilization of communities, or shifts in composition favoring more warm‐adapted species, over time and space is a common response to warming from global climate change and localized effects of land‐use change. However, the interplay between community thermophilization driven by temporal warming in global climate and spatial warming in ...

We propose the regulatory particle non‐ATPase subunit 6 of the 26S proteasome as a first good promising RNA interference target candidate to control the Japanese beetle Popillia japonica. This will help to optimize a double‐stranded RNA insecticide against this priority pest with low off‐target effects on pollinators on a gene sequence‐based prediction.

Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Bottom‐up effects play a critical role in shaping community structure and trophic interactions within detritus‐based food webs. Coarse deadwood supports high biodiversity and contributes to detrital food webs during its decomposition process.
