Temperature Dependence of the Structure of Langmuir Films of Normal-Alkanes on Liquid Mercury [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The temperature dependent phase behavior of Langmuir films of n-alkanes [CH3(CH2)n−2CH3, denote Cn] on mercury was studied for chain lengths 19 ⩽ n ⩽ 22 and temperatures 15 ⩽ T ⩽ 44 °C, using surface tensiometry and surface x-ray diffraction methods.

Textile Encoding Inspired by Langer Lines via Elastically Graded Embroidered Tessellations

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 37, Issue 37, September 18, 2025.
A standard embroidery machine can encode skin‐like directional mechanics into stretchable fabrics that, when worn, augment the wearer's skin. Zigzag stitch patterns, inspired by skin collagen structure, pack extra slack in threads that, when tessellated, mimic Langer lines.

Reversible Phase Transitions of Anionic and Cationic Surfactant Mixtures Drive Shape Morphing Droplets

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 37, Issue 37, September 18, 2025.
A light‐controlled, reversible phase transition of ionic surfactant assemblies, coupled with dynamic partitioning between bulk phases and interfaces, induces rapid, and order‐of‐magnitude changes in oil–water interfacial tension. Surpassing the capabilities of conventional stimuli‐responsive surfactants, this transient, collaborative mechanism enables ...

Antimicrobial graft copolymer gels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In view of the growing worldwide rise in microbial resistance, there is considerable interest in designing new antimicrobial copolymers. The aim of the current study was to investigate the relationship between antimicrobial activity and copolymer ...

Dynamic Interfacial Architectures: Cruciferin‐Stabilized Oil/Water Interfaces for Sustainable Emulsions

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, Volume 12, Issue 17, September 8, 2025.
The molecular level understanding of proteins at oil‐water interfaces is deepened. Cruciferin assumes trimeric conformations at the interface, as in solution. Interfacial mobility is only marginally lower than in solution, indicating the chemical structure preserves a network.

Forced desorption of nanoparticles from an oil-water interface. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
While nanoparticle adsorption to fluid interfaces has been studied from a fundamental standpoint and exploited in application, the reverse process, that is, desorption and disassembly, remains relatively unexplored.

Charged Beads Enhance Cutaneous Wound Healing in Rhesus Non-Human Primates

open access: yes, 1998
Enhanced cutaneous wound healing by positively charged cross-linked diethylaminoethyl dextran beads (CLOD) was studied in a standardized incisional wound model in 20 adult and 20 geriatric 111acaca mulatta (rhesus) partitioned equally over five time ...

Changes in helical content or net charge of apolipoprotein C-I alter its affinity for lipid/water interfaces[S]

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2013
Amphipathic α-helices mediate binding of exchangeable apolipoproteins to lipoproteins. To probe the role of α-helical structure in protein-lipid interactions, we used oil-drop tensiometry to characterize the interfacial behavior of apolipoprotein C-I ...
