Posterior cervical spine fusion with tension-band wiring

Journal of Neurosurgery, 1995
✓ In this study the authors detail their experience with posterior tension-band wiring for stabilization of the subaxial cervical spine. Fifty-five patients underwent fusion for trauma (41 patients), degenerative disease (13 patients), and tumor (one patient). The fusion rate was 96% (50 of 52 patients) and postoperative immobilization was accomplished

Treatment of Phalangeal Fractures by Tension Band Wiring

Journal of Hand Surgery, 2001
This retrospective study assessed the outcomes of 30 patients with phalangeal fractures which were treated by open reduction and tension band wiring. Oblique, transverse and comminuted extraarticular fractures, as well as intraarticular fractures, were treated with this technique and they all united in about 8 weeks.

Olecranon Fracture: Tension Band Wiring

2019
The tension band principle is utilized in the fixation of simple two-part transverse fracture of olecranon. This principle works when an eccentrically loaded bone is fractured. This creates a compressive and tensile surface. The tension band wiring implant takes tension and bone takes the compression.

Complications of tension-band wiring of olecranon fractures.

The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery, 1985
We encountered a high incidence of complications related to the technique of tension-band wire fixation of displaced fractures of the olecranon in a five-year retrospective study of twenty patients (twenty fractures). All had been treated with primary open reduction using the AO technique of tension-band wiring.

Factors influencing K-wire migration in tension-band wiring of olecranon fractures

Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, 2014
Tension-band wiring is a popular method of internal fixation for simple olecranon fractures. Although fracture union rates and clinical outcomes are good, up to 80% of patients require removal because of prominent/symptomatic metalwork. The current literature remains unclear as to the best orientation of the longitudinal wires to minimize hardware ...

Olecranon tension plating or olecranon tension band wiring? A comparative biomechanical study

International Orthopaedics, 2015
The complication rate of a tension band wiring (TBW) used for the internal fixation of olecranon fractures remains high. The aim of this study was to compare the stability of a novel olecranon tension plate (OTP) with TBW in a simulated fracture model. We tested 12 fresh frozen-pairs of cadaver proximal ulnae treated with OTP and TBW under cyclic ...

K-Wire position in tension band wiring of the Olecranon — A comparison of two techniques

Injury, 2000
Tension band wiring is a recognised standard treatment for olecranon fractures. We studied the effect of K-wire position on backing out of the wire in a group of 80 patients with closed transverse olecranon fractures with a minimum follow-up time of 9 months.

Self-locking tension band technique. A new perspective in tension band wiring.

Archives of orthopaedic and trauma surgery, 2000
After experiencing some complications with the AO modified tension band technique, we have made a small modification to prevent proximal migration of the Kirschner wires. In this modification, the proximal ends of the wires are bent to form a loop and the cerclage wire passed through them. In this way, Kirschner wires and cerclage wire lock each other,

Treatment of Distal Clavicle Fracture Using Kirschner Wires and Tension-Band Wires

Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery, 2001
Nonunion frequently follows distal clavicle fracture. Traditional pinning methods using the through acromioclavicular articulation may result in osteoarthritic changes or ankylosis. This study introduces a direct pinning technique in which the acromioclavicular joint is spared.Twelve patients with displaced distal clavicle fractures received open ...

The use of the wire tension band in the treatment of fractures in the dog

Journal of Small Animal Practice, 1975
ABSTRACTThe use of the wire tension band for the internal fixation of fractures of the olecranon, patella, proximal and distal epiphyses and lateral malleolus of the tibia, os calcis and radius is described in ten cases.
