In my last column (see ibid., January/February 2001), I talked about a notational device for matrix algebra called tensor diagrams. This time I write some C++ code to symbolically evaluate these quantities. This gives me a chance to play with some as yet untried features in the C++ standard library, such as strings and standard template library (STL ...

Generating Efficient Tensor Contractions for GPUs
2015 44th International Conference on Parallel Processing, 2015Many scientific and numerical applications, including quantum chemistry modeling and fluid dynamics simulation, require tensor product and tensor contraction evaluation. Tensor computations are characterized by arrays with numerous dimensions, inherent parallelism, moderate data reuse and many degrees of freedom in the order in which to perform the ...

Dynamic contraction of tensor with quantum algorithm
2017 13th International Conference on Natural Computation, Fuzzy Systems and Knowledge Discovery (ICNC-FSKD), 2017In the paper, contraction of a dynamic vector (i.e., both the number and the individuals of elements in the vector are non-deterministic) in a tensor is programmed. It accumulates complete N-combinations of one element of every M-set by recursion algorithm for object-oriented programming.

Nonnegative contraction/averaging tensor factorization
10th Symposium on Neural Network Applications in Electrical Engineering, 2010Nonnegative tensor factorization (NTF) is a recent multiway (multilinear) extension of negative matrix factorization (NMF), where nonnegativity constraints are mainly imposed on CANDECOMP/PARAFAC model and recently, also, on Tucker model. Nonnegative tensor factorization algorithms have many potential applications, including multiway clustering, multi ...

Optimal contraction order of multiple tensors
2013 21st Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference (SIU), 2013Computational problems involving big data require application of multiway analysis tools on modern parallel infrastructure. Tensor contraction is one the fundamental operations used in multiway analysis. Dynamic programming formulation presented in this work searches for the least memory using contraction order in multiple tensor contraction operation.

CAST: Contraction Algorithm for Symmetric Tensors
2014 43rd International Conference on Parallel Processing, 2014Tensor contractions represent the most compute- intensive core kernels in abinitio computational quantum chemistry and nuclear physics. Symmetries in these tensor contractions make them difficult to load balance and scale to large distributed systems. In this paper, we develop an efficient and scalable algorithm to contract symmetric tensors.
