Machine learning classifiers for attributing tephra to source volcanoes: an evaluation of methods for Alaska tephras

Journal of Quaternary Science, 2019
Glass composition‐based correlations of volcanic ash (tephra) traditionally rely on extensive manual plotting. Many previous statistical methods for testing correlations are limited by using geochemical means, masking diagnostic variability.

Holocene tephra record of Lake Veliko jezero, Croatia: implications for the central Mediterranean tephrostratigraphy and sea level rise

Boreas, 2020
Core M1‐A from Mljet Island, Croatia, was retrieved from a submerged sinkhole to investigate tephra and reconstruct past sea levels. Eleven tephra layers were found, out of which six are macroscopically visible, while five are cryptotephra.

Revisiting the Borrobol Tephra

Boreas, 2016
The Borrobol Tephra has been identified as one of the key tephra horizons for the Lateglacial time period but it also exemplifies many of the promises and problems of tephrochronology. Additional horizons with similar major element composition and approximately the same age have been identified around the North Atlantic region.
