Real-Time Distance Measurement using a Subcarrier FMCW Radar based on a Terahertz-wave Resonant-Tunneling-Diode Oscillator

2021 46th International Conference on Infrared, Millimeter and Terahertz Waves (IRMMW-THz), 2021
We report on real-time distance measurement in the terahertz range using a resonant-tunneling-diode (RTD) oscillator by applying the frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) radar principle to a subcarrier of the terahertz wave. Compared with our previous report, the measurement time was reduced from above one minute to below 5 ms, an improvement of ...

Terahertz-wave radars based on resonant-tunneling-diode oscillators

Terahertz Emitters, Receivers, and Applications X, 2019
Several terahertz-wave radar techniques based on a resonant-tunneling-diode (RTD) oscillator are under investigation. First, an amplitude-modulated continuous-wave (AMCW) radar able to measure the absolute distance was achieved by demodulating the wave returning from the target and measuring its phase, either by determining the time delay with an ...

Pancharatnam–Berry metasurface for terahertz wave radar cross section reduction*

Chinese Physics B, 2019
Abstract The digital coding metasurfaces need several kinds of meta-particle structures to obtain corresponding electromagnetic wave responses and require time-consuming optimization. In this paper, we present train-symbol-shaped meta-particles with various orientations utilizing Pancharatnam–Berry (PB) phase to achieve 1-, 2-, and 3-bit

Manipulating terahertz wave and reducing radar cross section (RCS) by combining a Pancharatnam–Berry phase with a coding metasurface

Laser Physics, 2019
We propose a kind of coding metasurface of an 'M'-shaped metallic pattern coding particle, which can realize the flexible manipulation of terahertz waves and reduce radar cross sections effectively. In this paper, eight kinds of coding particles are obtained by rotating the 'M'-shaped pattern using the Pancharatnam–Berry phase theory.

Propagation of terahertz wave in left-handed materials and the radar cross section of targets coated with left-handed materials

Waves in Random and Complex Media, 2019
In this paper, the propagation of terahertz (THz) band of electromagnetic wave in left-handed materials (LHM) is simulated by using finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method.
