Terahertz Nanofocusing with Cantilevered Terahertz-Resonant Antenna Tips [PDF]

open access: yesNano Letters, 2017
We developed THz-resonant scanning probe tips, yielding strongly enhanced and nanoscale confined THz near fields at their tip apex. The tips with length in the order of the THz wavelength (λ = 96.5 μm) were fabricated by focused ion beam (FIB) machining and attached to standard atomic force microscopy (AFM) cantilevers.

MOFs and COFs in Electronics: Bridging the Gap between Intrinsic Properties and Measured Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs) hold promise for advanced electronics. However, discrepancies in reported electrical conductivities highlight the importance of measurement methodologies. This review explores intrinsic charge transport mechanisms and extrinsic factors influencing performance, and critically ...

Analysis of terahertz generation using tilted-pulse-fronts

open access: yes, 2018
A 2-D spatio-temporal analysis of terahertz generation by optical rectification of tilted-pulse-fronts is presented. Closed form expressions of terahertz transients and spectra in two spatial dimensions are furnished in the undepleted limit. Importantly,

Terahertz transceiver concept

open access: yesOptics Express, 2014
We present a photoconductive terahertz transceiver based on a modulation of the optical pulses used for generation and detection at different rates. External modulation of the THz pulses is not required as opposed to previously reported approaches. Devices from fiber-optic technology are used, providing flexibility and stability to the system.

2D Magnetic and Topological Quantum Materials and Devices for Ultralow Power Spintronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
2D magnets and topological quantum materials enable ultralow‐power spintronics by combining robust magnetic order with symmetry‐protected, Berry‐curvature‐driven transport. Fundamentals of 2D anisotropy and spin‐orbit‐coupling induced band inversion are linked to scalable growth and vdW stacking.

A Two-Stage Time-Domain Equalization Method for Mitigating Nonlinear Distortion in Single-Carrier THz Communication Systems

open access: yesSensors
Terahertz (THz) communication is regarded as a key technology for achieving high-speed data transmission and wireless communication due to its ultra-high frequency and large bandwidth characteristics.

Contrast Enhancement for Topographic Imaging in Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
The influence of the axial pinhole position in a confocal microscope in terms of the contrast of the image is analyzed. The pinhole displacement method is introduced which allows to increase the contrast for topographic imaging.

Clean Up Behind You ‐ Novel Patterning Approach for Solid Immersion Lenses

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A focused ion beam (FIB) milling strategy enables rapid fabrication of solid immersion lenses (SILs) with smooth, debris‐free surfaces eliminating the need for post‐processing. The optimized pattern improves efficiency and surface quality. SILs containing NV centers are also investigated, confirming the technique's suitability for quantum and photonic ...

Multi-spectral materials: hybridisation of optical plasmonic filters and a terahertz metamaterial absorber [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Multi-spectral materials, using hybridised plasmonic and metamaterial structures, can simultaneously exhibit unique resonant phenomena over several decades of wavelengths.

Terahertz Kerr effect [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Physics Letters, 2009
We have observed optical birefringence in liquids induced by single-cycle terahertz pulses with field strengths exceeding 100 kV/cm. The induced change in polarization is proportional to the square of the terahertz electric field. The time-dependent terahertz Kerr signal is composed of a fast electronic response that follows the individual cycles of ...
