Cascading Spin‐Orbitronic Terahertz Emission in Ferromagnet/Nonmagnet Bilayers

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
While the initial generation mechanism of picosecond orbital currents remains elusive, we reveal a cascading spin–orbital transport mechanism that induces optically driven terahertz emission in ferromagnet/nonmagnet heterostructures. Using a ferromagnet with strong spin–orbit coupling, we identify a thickness‐driven transition from spin‐dominated to ...

MEMS-Based Terahertz Detectors [PDF]

open access: yesProcedia Engineering, 2015
A MEMS based novel THz detector structure is designed and realized by micro fabrication. The detector is then characterized to extract its mechanical performance. Operating in 1-5 THz band, the detector has a pixel size of 200 μm × 200 μm. Bimaterial suspension legs consist of Parylene-C and titanium, the pair of which provides a high mismatch in ...

Laser‐Induced Ultrafast Magnetic Phase Transition in 2D Van Der Waals Antiferromagnetic Heterostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this work, ultrafast laser‐induced spin transfer and spin relaxation dynamics in 2D van der Waals antiferromagnetic CrI3/CrGeTe3 heterostructures are investigated. Laser excitation is demonstrated to induce pronounced interlayer nonequilibrium spin dynamics and ultrafast magnetic moment reconstruction, driving a transition from an antiferromagnetic (

Parasitic mixing in photomixers as continuous wave terahertz sources

open access: yesScientific Reports
We present observations of parasitic frequency components in the emission spectrum of typical photomixer sources for continuous wave (CW) terahertz generation. Broadband tunable photomixer systems are often used in combination with direct power detectors,

A Versatile Illumination System for Real-Time Terahertz Imaging

open access: yesSensors, 2020
Terahertz technologies are attracting strong interest from high-end industrial fields, and particularly for non-destructive-testing purposes. Currently lacking compactness, integrability as well as adaptability for those implementations, the development ...

Two‐Dimensional Triferroics: From Fundamental Couplings to Multifunctional Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This graphic summarizes the three main types of currently reported 2D triferroic couplings. From the structural perspective, existing systems can be broadly classified into two categories, which exhibit distinct symmetry features and coupling behaviors. Beyond the lattice difference, a third type involves the interplay among ferroelectricity, magnetism,

Fundamentals of Thermal Transport and Energy Conversion in Ultra‐High Temperature Ceramics: From Microscale Mechanisms to Macroscopic Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review critically examines thermal transport and radiative properties of ultra‐high temperature ceramics for hypersonic flight, advanced nuclear systems, and next‐generation energy conversion devices. It explores phonon–photon–electron interactions, microstructural engineering, thermoelectric conversion, and machine learning‐accelerated multiscale

Single Nanowire Terahertz Detectors

open access: yesCLEO: 2015, 2015
Photoconductive terahertz detectors based on single GaAs/AlGaAs nanowire were designed, fabricated and incorporated into the pulsed time-domain technique, showing a promise for nanowires in terahertz applications such as near-field terahertz sensors or on-chip terahertz micro-spectrometers.
