Holographic Mapping of Orbital Angular Momentum using a Terahertz Diffractive Optical Neural Network

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
A compact six‐layer diffractive optical neural network enables direct recognition and spatial mapping of terahertz (THz) orbital angular momentum (OAM) beams. Fabricated by 3D printing, the system distinguishes nine OAM modes and their superpositions with high fidelity, good efficiency, and low crosstalk, offering a scalable solution for THz ...

A Critical Assessment of Bonding Descriptors for Predicting Materials Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
The impact of new bonding descriptors in machine learning models for predicting material properties is assessed. Improvements are validated using significance tests, and new, intuitive descriptors for screening lattice thermal conductivity and projected force constants are introduced.

Polarisation-sensitive terahertz detectors

open access: yes, 2016
We have developed a detector of coherent terahertz (THz) radiation that can recover the full polarisation state of a THz transient. The device is a three-contact photoconductive receiver, which is capable of recording two time-varying electric field components of a THz pulse simultaneously.

Surface Charges Guided Quasi‐TEM‐mode Microwave Propagation along Dielectric Nanowire

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research, EarlyView.
According to Maxwell's equations, a single‐conductor transmission line cannot allow TEM‐mode electromagnetic wave propagation, however, this is based upon the assumption that dielectric material is isolated from the environment. In practice, surface electrostatic charges widely existed in nano‐materials with large surface‐to‐volume ratio.

Space And Ground-based New Tools For Thz Solar Flare Observations

open access: yes, 2016
Recent sub-THz and 30 THz observations revealed an unexpected new spectral component, with fluxes increasing towards THz frequencies, simultaneously with the well known component peaking at microwaves, bringing challenging constraints for interpretation.

Quantum Heat Current in Terahertz‐Driven Phonon Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research, EarlyView.
We develop a quantum mechanical description of ultrafast thermodynamics on the example of a laser‐excited phonon mode. We show that the resulting quantum heat current exhibits non‐Markovian dynamics, which can be controlled by the pulse length. ABSTRACT The advent of high‐intensity ultrafast laser pulses has opened new opportunities for controlling and

Recent Advances in Stimulated Brillouin Scattering in Integrated Photonics

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research, EarlyView.
This review systematically surveys recent advances in stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) within integrated photonics. It begins by elucidating the fundamental mechanisms of stimulated coupling between photons and acoustic phonons in nanoscale waveguides, enhanced by the photoelastic and moving boundary effects.

Elementary Steps of Energy Conversion in Strongly Correlated Systems: Beyond Single Quasiparticles and Rigid Bands

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
This article reviews the fundamental consequences of strong correlations on excitations and elementary steps of energy conversion leading to new opportunities to control energy conversion. Examples include friction at surfaces, thermal transport, and photovoltaic energy conversion.
