Carbon Nanotube Terahertz Detector
Nano Letters, 2014Terahertz (THz) technologies are promising for diverse areas such as medicine, bioengineering, astronomy, environmental monitoring, and communications. However, despite decades of worldwide efforts, the THz region of the electromagnetic spectrum still continues to be elusive for solid state technology. Here, we report on the development of a powerless,

Metamaterial based terahertz detector
2011 International Conference on Infrared, Millimeter, and Terahertz Waves, 2011We present a metamaterial based terahertz (THz) detector. The detector design, which combines metamaterials and MEMs, is frequency selective, and we have fabricated and tested detectors at 95 GHz and 693 GHz with noise equivalent powers of 1.13 × 10−8 W/√Hz and 2.96 × 10−8 W/√Hz and responsivities of 16,500 V/W and 6,800 V/W, respectively. These values

Inexpensive detector for terahertz imaging
Applied Optics, 2007Glow discharge plasma, derived from direct-current gas breakdown, is investigated in order to realize an inexpensive terahertz (THz) room-temperature detector. Preliminary results for THz radiation show that glow discharge indicator lamps as room-temperature detectors yield good responsivity and noise-equivalent power.

Terahertz sources and detectors
SPIE Proceedings, 2005Through the support of the US Army Research Office we are developing terahertz sources and detectors suitable for use in the spectroscopy of chemical and biological materials as well as for use in imaging systems to detect concealed weapons. Our technology relies on nonlinear diodes to translate the functionality achieved at microwave frequencies to ...

Design guidelines for terahertz mixers and detectors
IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques, 2005Twin-slot antennas and coplanar waveguides are a popular choice for coupling signals to state-of-the-art mixers and detectors at terahertz frequencies. Although these sensors show promising performance in terms of noise temperature, they usually also show a considerable downward shift in the center frequency of their spectral response, especially when ...

Solid State Rectifier as Terahertz Detector
2018 AEIT International Annual Conference, 2018We present a new solid state rectifier, compatible with CMOS integrated circuit, suitable to direct conversion of terahertz radiation, at room temperature. The structure creates a rectenna, consists in a truncated conical helix extruded from a planar spiral and connected to a nanometric metallic whisker at one of its edges. The whisker reaches the gate
