Broadband generation of terahertz radiation in a waveguide

Optics Letters, 2004
We report a novel geometry that allows for the phase-matched generation of broadband terahertz radiation in a polymer-based parallel-plate metal waveguide by means of optical rectification. Both the optical pump beam and the generated terahertz radiation propagate in the fundamental mode of the waveguide. This allows for noncritical phase matching over

Interaction of terahertz radiation with semiconductors

physica status solidi c, 2011
AbstractThe microscopic theory of the interaction of terahertz radiation with semiconductors is reviewed. The theory is applied to analyze the intersubband terahertz response of optically excited semiconductor quantum wells (© 2011 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)

Langmuir wave undulator for terahertz radiation

Optics Letters, 2012
A source of terhertz (THz) radiation based on the free-electron laser, where a plasma wave plays the role of undulator, is theoretically studied. This scheme can generate coherent photons in the range of 0.1-10 THz. The feasible physical parameters in laboratories are estimated.

Terahertz radiation emitters and detectors

Optical Materials, 2008
Laser-activated THz emitters and THz detectors based on low temperature grown GaAs are developed and fabricated at the Semiconductor Physics Institute. One of their possible applications is in THz time domain spectroscopy (TDS) systems. A standard system consists of a THz emitter and a detector, a mode-locked Ti:Sapphire laser and a lock-in amplifier ...

Imprinted diffractive optics for terahertz radiation

Optics Letters, 2007
Terahertz diffractive optic elements have been fabricated in polypropylene by imprinting with a silicon master. A silicon master is created with eight phase levels for high diffraction efficiency and etched using inductively coupled plasma reactive ion etching.

Development of terahertz radiation sources

International Conference on Millimeter and Submillimeter Waves and Applications 1994, 1994
IR&T is developing terahertz sources via two distinct routes. First, application of solid-state, quasi-optical techniques is focussed on development of a A¢â‚¬â€600 GHz nonlinear, multiplier source. Second, a compact, optically pumped 2.5 THz far-infrared (FIR) laser is under consideration for application to atmospheric science and diagnosis of ...
