Investigation of terahertz radiation influence on rat glial cells.
We studied an influence of continuous terahertz (THz) radiation (0.12 - 0.18 THz, average power density of 3.2 mW/cm2) on a rat glial cell line. A dose-dependent cytotoxic effect of THz radiation is demonstrated.

Generation of high-field narrowband terahertz radiation by counterpropagating plasma wakefields [PDF]
It is found that nonlinear interaction of plasma wakefields driven by counterpropagating laser or particle beams can efficiently generate high-power electromagnetic radiation at the second harmonic of the plasma frequency.

The 2023 terahertz science and technology roadmap
Terahertz (THz) radiation encompasses a wide spectral range within the electromagnetic spectrum that extends from microwaves to the far infrared (100 GHz–∼30 THz).

Generation of terahertz radiation by AlGaAs nanowires [PDF]
Terahertz emission by AlGaAs nanowires grown on a GaAs substrate under excitation by femtosecond optical pulses has been observed. It is demonstrated that THz emission occurs via excitation of photocurrent in the nanowires. The dynamics of photoinduced charge carriers is studied via the influence of an electron—hole plasma on terahertz radiation. It is

Tunable Circularly Polarized Terahertz Radiation from Magnetized Gas Plasma. [PDF]
It is shown, by simulation and theory, that circularly or elliptically polarized terahertz radiation can be generated when a static magnetic (B) field is imposed on a gas target along the propagation direction of a two-color laser driver.

Photoconductive antennas for terahertz radiation.
Photoconductive materials are currently used to design antennas that radiate in the terahertz band. In this master thesis is proposed to study the design of different types of antennas and feeding mechanisms to increase the radiation efficiency.

Acoustic phase imaging with terahertz radiation
We report on acoustic phase imaging of objects using terahertz radiation. The sensitivity of the technique is sufficient to detect objects at oscillation amplitudes down to about 300 nm. Such acoustic amplitudes are comparable to the human physiological perception level, which offers novel opportunities in security imaging.

Terahertz Oscillator Chips Backside-coupled to Unclad Microphotonics [PDF]
Terahertz technology is largely dependent upon planar on-chip antennas that radiate downwards through the substrate, and so an effective means to interface these antennas with integrated waveguides is an attractive prospect. We present a viable methodology for backside coupling between a terahertz oscillator chip and a broadband all-intrinsic-silicon ...

Multifocal terahertz radiation by intense lasers in rippled plasma
This paper presents a theoretical model for the generation of terahertz radiation by cosh-Gaussian laser beams of high intensity, which are capable of creating relativistic–ponderomotive nonlinearity. We find the components of the terahertz radiation for

Significant Radiation Enhancement in Photoconductive Terahertz Emitters by Incorporating Plasmonic Contact Electrodes [PDF]
Even though the terahertz spectrum is well suited for chemical identification, material characterization, biological sensing and medical imaging, practical development of these applications has been hindered by the attributes of terahertz sources, namely low output power and poor efficiency. Here, we demonstrate that use of plasmonic contact electrodes
