Optical properties of BiB3O6 in the terahertz range

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2020
We present the spectra of the refractive index and the absorption coefficient of BiB3O6 (BIBO) crystal measured by the means of terahertz time-domain spectroscopy in the frequency range of 0.18–2.75 THz. We observe a large birefringence Δn = nZ − nX = 1.5 and the values of absorption coefficients of all three axes to be less than 5 cm−1 in the range ...

De Novo Design and Directed Evolution Refinement of Mirror‐Image Protein Binders Targeting Interleukin‐4

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents the de novo design and directed evolution of a mirror‐image D‐protein inhibitor targeting human interleukin‐4 (IL‐4). The engineered molecule exhibits nanomolar binding affinity for IL‐4 and effectively inhibits IL‐4–mediated signaling.

High-temperature terahertz optical diode effect without magnetic order in polar FeZnMo$_3$O$_8$

open access: yes, 2018
We present a terahertz spectroscopic study of polar ferrimagnet FeZnMo$_3$O$_8$. Our main finding is a giant high-temperature optical diode effect, or nonreciprocal directional dichroism, where the transmitted light intensity in one direction is over 100

Laser‐Induced Ultrafast Magnetic Phase Transition in 2D Van Der Waals Antiferromagnetic Heterostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this work, ultrafast laser‐induced spin transfer and spin relaxation dynamics in 2D van der Waals antiferromagnetic CrI3/CrGeTe3 heterostructures are investigated. Laser excitation is demonstrated to induce pronounced interlayer nonequilibrium spin dynamics and ultrafast magnetic moment reconstruction, driving a transition from an antiferromagnetic (

Photon‐Sphere Modes in Curved Optical Microcavities: A Black‐Hole Analogue Laser

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An optical analogue of a Schwarzschild black hole is realized using curved microcavities that preserve light‐like geodesics. A new family of laser modes confined around the photon sphere is identified alongside conventional whispering‐gallery modes. Analytical theory, numerical simulations, and experiments reveal curvature‐induced confinement, enabling

Metamaterial near-field sensor for deep-subwavelength thickness measurements and sensitive refractometry in the terahertz frequency range

open access: yes, 2012
We present a metamaterial-based terahertz (THz) sensor for thickness measurements of subwavelength-thin materials and refractometry of liquids and liquid mixtures.

Transient Terahertz Oscillations During Photoinduced Polarization Topology Reconfiguration in Ferroelectric Superlattices

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Terahertz resonances in crystalline heterostructures could close a spectral gap between conventional electronics and photonics while opening new windows on non‐equilibrium lattice dynamics. Femtosecond optical screening of the depolarization field in epitaxial PbTiO3/SrTiO3 superlattices launches a collective polar mode that oscillates near 1 THz and ...

Prospects for terahertz imaging the human skin cancer with the help of gold-nanoparticles-based terahertz-to-infrared converter

open access: yes, 2019
The design is suggested, and possible operation parameters are discussed, of an instrument to inspect a skin cancer tumour in the terahertz (THz) range, transferring the image into the infrared (IR) and making it visible with the help of standard IR ...

Dirac Surface‐State Driven Broad Spectral Band Low Quantum Energy Photoresponse in Quaternary Topological BiSbSe2Te

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Quaternary topological BiSbSe2Te are synthesized and demonstrates a broad spectral band photoresponse, ranging from infrared to terahertz and to millimeter waves, with a particular excellence on detection of low quantum energy terahertz photons. The observed photoresponse is attributed to the excitation of plasmonic nonequilibrium electrons originating
