Localised Autophagy Inhibition by Nanodiamonds Potentiates Arsenic Therapy With Favourable Safety Profile in Solid Tumours

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
This study presents an NDs‐mediated localised combination strategy that integrates autophagy inhibition with low‐dose ATO sensitization, enabling effective tumour suppression while enhancing safety. NDs‐mediated autophagy blockade enhances ATO efficacy while minimising systemic toxicity, highlighting a promising approach for solid tumour treatment ...

The E‐cadherin‐Wnt‐mir‐994 Axis Repurposes a Cadherin Switch for Niche Robustness and Germline Stem Cell Maintenance

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
In the Drosophila ovarian niche, an E‐cadherin‐to‐N‐cadherin switch, mediated by Wnt‐mir‐994 signalling, is repurposed to ensure niche resilience. This compensatory mechanism maintains niche integrity and stem cell support upon E‐cadherin loss, revealing a robustness circuit.

AQP1 Corrects Acinar Cells’ Secretion Deficits in Sjögren's Disease

open access: yesOral Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Sjögren's disease (SjD) is a systemic autoimmune disease characterized by dry mouth, dry eyes, and profound fatigue. Preclinical studies suggest that AQP1 gene expression in salivary glands corrects salivary hypofunction in preclinical and clinical studies of radiation‐induced xerostomia and improves salivary and lacrimal function

The effect of photodynamic therapy in head and neck cancer: A comprehensive review of in vivo models

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
This review evaluates Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) in in vivo head and neck cancer models. PDT effectively generates ROS, reducing tumor growth, cell proliferation and angiogenesis while enhancing survival and immune responses. However, methodological heterogeneity highlights the urgent need for standardized dosimetric protocols to ensure reproducibility

Periodontitis and metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease with systemic effects that extend beyond the oral cavity and contribute to systemic immune and metabolic dysregulation. Chronic liver diseases, particularly metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and its progressive phenotypes, have emerged as major global ...

Expression characteristics of dual‐specificity phosphatase 2 and hypoxia‐inducible factor‐1α in acute kidney injury and preliminary study of the effect of dual‐specificity phosphatase 2 on HK‐2 cells

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a global health problem with significant long‐term harm if the prognosis is poor. Dual‐specificity phosphatase 2 (DUSP2) is involved in key regulatory pathways in several disease processes, but its function in renal pathophysiology is unclear.

S14G‐humanin attenuates renal ischaemia–reperfusion injury, potentially through activation of STAT3 and ERK1/2 signalling pathways in rats

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Renal ischaemia–reperfusion (I/R) injury leads to acute tubular necrosis and renal failure, triggering pathological mechanisms including inflammation, reactive oxygen species generation, apoptosis and mitochondrial dysfunction. The mitochondrial peptide humanin (HN), known to possess anti‐apoptotic and anti‐inflammatory properties, has been ...
