A methodological approach to BISDN signalling performance [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
Sophisticated signalling protocols are required to properly handle the complex multimedia, multiparty services supported by the forthcoming BISDN. The implementation feasibility of these protocols should be evaluated during their design phase, so that ...

COVID‐19, Board of Directors and Pessimism in Annual Reports: An Intention to Mitigate Litigation Risk

open access: yesInternational Journal of Finance &Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study examines the impact of corporate COVID‐19 disclosure on the negative tone (pessimism) in annual reports. We also investigate how board size and board independence influence pessimism in annual reports. Using a U.K. sample from 2020, we employ various techniques to explore the COVID‐19 disclosure‐pessimism nexus.

An adaptive software defined radio design based on a standard space telecommunication radio system API

open access: yes, 2017
Software defined radio (SDR) has become a popular tool for the implementation and testing for communications performance. The advantage of the SDR approach includes: a re-configurable design, adaptive response to changing conditions, efficient ...

All physical reservoir computing system with tunable temporal dynamics for multi‐timescale information processing

open access: yesInfoMat, EarlyView.
Leveraging the modulation effect of oxygen vacancies on the energy barrier, a homogeneously integrated all‐PRC system with tunable temporal dynamics is constructed. The broad range ratio of temporal characteristic (>102) of the reservoir enables PRC to process information across multi‐timescale.

Efficient and robust fiber coupling of superconducting single photon detectors [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2011
We applied a recently developed fiber coupling technique to superconducting single photon detectors (SSPDs). As the detector area of SSPDs has to be kept as small as possible, coupling to an optical fiber has been either inefficient or unreliable. Etching through the silicon substrate allows fabrication of a circularly shaped chip which self aligns to ...

3G telecommunication technology in Malaysia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
3G is the third generation of mobile phone standards and technology, after 2G. It is based on the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) family of standards under the International Mobile Telecommunications programme, "IMT- 2000". 3G technologies

Ultralow Photon Flux OWC Links Using UV‐C Single‐Photon Detection

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
This work presents ultralow photon flux UV‐C optical wireless communication (OWC) links using a micro‐LED and a silicon photomultiplier (SiPM)‐based single‐photon detector (SPD). A record‐low transmission of 7.7 photons per bit and a maximum data rate of 120 Mbit s−1 are achieved. Furthermore, single‐photon links highlight the potential for a future UV‐

A Full Characterization of Irrelevant Components in Diameter Constrained Reliability [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
In classical network reliability analysis, the system under study is a network with perfect nodes but imperfect link, that fail stochastically and independently. There, the goal is to find the probability that the resulting random graph is connected, called \emph{reliability}. Although the exact reliability computation belongs to the class of $\mathcal{

Nucleation and Propagation of Traveling Charge Domains in a Planar AlGaN/GaN Triode Structure

open access: yesphysica status solidi (a), EarlyView.
This work presents a novel model for the nucleation of charge domain instabilities in semiconductors exhibiting negative differential drift velocity, identifying diffusion as the key factor inhibiting domain formation. A planar Gunn triode structure is proposed which overcomes obstacles to the realization of GaN‐based Gunn effect devices with ...

Coded Caching Clusters with Device-to-Device Communications [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
We consider a geographically constrained caching community where popular data files are cached on mobile terminals and distributed through Device-to-Device (D2D) communications. Further, to ensure availability, data files are protected against user mobility, or churn, with erasure coding.
