Ecology, Behavior and Evolution of Disease Resistance in Termites

2010
The nesting and feeding habits of termites create the risk of contact with microbial and invertebrate pathogens and parasites. Additionally, termite life history can result in cyclical decreases in nestmate genetic heterogeneity, increasing susceptibility to parasites, and sociality may elevate transmission rates of infection within colonies.

THE PERSISTENCE AND TERMITE RESISTANCE OF CREOSOTE AND ITS CONSTITUENT FRACTIONS

Journal of the South African Forestry Association, 1944
AT risk of entering, as comparative laymen, into a controversy which has been waged for many years by workers who have specialised in the subject, we present the results of a few tests on the persistence of creosote and its constituent fractions, carried out at the Forest Products Institute, Pretoria.

Studies on thermal degradation and termite resistant properties of chemically modified wood

Bioresource Technology, 2002
A series of experiments were carried out to examine the resistant capacity of a chemically treated hard wood, Anthocephalus cadamba (Roxb) Miq. to thermal and termite degradation. The treatment with thermosetting resins viz. urea formaldehyde (UF), melamine formaldehyde (MF) and phenol formaldehyde (PF) at 31-33 levels of weight percent gain (WPG ...

Are larger termite mounds more resistant to fire? A study of two southern African termites (Isoptera: Termitidae)

Austral Entomology
AbstractTermites are resistant to fire, a common disturbance in the world's savannas, but most explanations for how termites resist fire are speculative. Some researchers have suggested that the mounds of some termite species can serve as a structural defence against direct fire mortality.

Termite Resistance of Guayule Resin TreatedSouthern Pine and Yellow Poplar

Wood is susceptible to termite degradation, necessitating the development of effective and sustainable preservative systems. This study evaluates the termite resistance of wood treated with guayule resin as a bio-based preservative against Coptotermes formosanus, with emphasis on the effects of resin concentration, species, and carrier system.
