Synergistic Bioconversion of Date Palm Leaves Into Ruminant Feed by a Leopard Moth (Zeuzera pyrina L.) Gut Bacterial Consortium and Nutrient Stimulators

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 2, February 2026.
Treating date palm leaves with a bacterial consortium, especially when supplemented with glucose and urea, significantly degrades lignin. This process enhances nutritional value by increasing crude protein, digestibility, and metabolizable energy. The method effectively transforms this agricultural by‐product into a viable ruminant feed.

Termite (Blattodea: Isoptera) Distribution Along an Elevational Gradient in Northwestern African Mountains

open access: yesDiversity
We examined the distribution of termites along an elevational gradient in the western Rif Mountains of northern Morocco. Sampling followed standardized protocols at nine forest sites (125, 325, 488, 715, 850, 1150, 1316, 1544, and 1700 masl), all except ...

Tannin-boron wood preservatives [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Tannin-boron wood preservatives are alternative products to replace water-borne formulations based on copper. Interesting results in protection against fungus (pycnoporus sanguineus) were achieved with formulations based of 20% tannin solutions ...

Interpreting Changes in Global Methane Budget in a Chemistry‐Climate Model Constrained With Methane and Isotopic Observations

open access: yesAGU Advances, Volume 7, Issue 1, February 2026.
Abstract The continuous increase in atmospheric methane (CH4) concentrations over the past few decades has become a major concern due to its strong role as a greenhouse gas contributing to climate change. In this work, we investigate the changes in the global methane budget using a global chemistry‐climate model constrained with methane and its ...

Multiple signalling increases both prey response and diversity in a carnivorous pitcher plant

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 40, Issue 2, Page 451-462, February 2026.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Organisms across the tree of life use multiple signals such as colour, movement sound, and many types of chemical signals to convey seemingly the same information. These signals are potentially costly, yet the repeated evolution of multiple signalling across systems ...

The Weak Worker Hypothesis: a new framework for understanding division of labour in social insects

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 101, Issue 1, Page 5-13, February 2026.
ABSTRACT In social species, group functions often benefit from variation among individual group members. Many highly integrated social insect colonies rely on division of labour among colony members and emergent properties of their collective behaviour and physiology. Response threshold models are a prominent proximate explanation of division of labour,

Fraternal cooperation of hierarchical cancer parallels metazoan multicellularity and eusociality

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 101, Issue 1, Page 400-418, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Metazoan multicellularity and eusociality — both outcomes of the fraternal major transitions — have numerous features in common such as uneven distribution of group‐establishing potential. In addition to this framework, I argue herein that the group‐forming principles of metazoan multicellularity and eusociality are analogous to hierarchical ...
