Multifunctional Design of Triply Periodic Minimal Surface Structures for Temporary Pediatric Fixation Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A metallic implant's higher stiffness compared to the surrounding bone leads to stress shielding problems, causing bone density reduction and bone growth interference in pediatric patients. 3D‐printed triply periodic minimal surface structures present a promising engineering solution.

Semantic Representation of Low‐Cycle‐Fatigue Testing Data Using a Fatigue Test Ontology and ckan.kupferdigital Data Management System

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article introduces an automated approach for converting the raw research data (use case of low‐cycle‐fatigue testing dataset) to machine‐readable resource description framework ones and storing them in an open digital repository. As two main prerequisites for this data digitalization process, the development of fatigue testing ontology and ckan ...

Operator space characterizations of C*-algebras and ternary rings [PDF]

open access: yesPacific Journal of Mathematics 209 No. 2 (2003) 339-364, 2002
We prove that an operator space is completely isometric to a ternary ring of operators if and only if the open unit balls of all of its matrix spaces are bounded symmetric domains. From this we obtain an operator space characterization of C*-algebras.

Modeling and Accessing Smart Materials with Integrity Constraints in the Shapes Constraint Language and Ontologies—The SmaDi Way

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Integrity constraints enforce consistency and completeness on data. The article discusses a newly developed validator for checking integrity constraints in Shapes Constraint Language (SHACL) through reduction to SPARQL Protocol and RDF Query Language (SPARQL) queries. It can be used with systems for ontology‐based database access.

Ontology‐Based Data Acquisition, Refinement, and Utilization in the Development of a Multilayer Ferrite Inductor

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Multilayer ferrite inductor prototypes are fabricated by cofiring metallized tapes of NiCuZn ferrite and glass‐ceramic composite. Prerequisites for a predictive component simulation are discussed. An automated data‐pipeline stores and semantically links the experimental data acquired in the study according to a domain ontology.

Dynamic Corrosion of Carbonate Salt for 3rd Generation CSP Plants

open access: yesSolarPACES Conference Proceedings
Eutectic ternary carbonate salt is one of the candidates for 3rd generation concentrated solar power (CSP) plants. Gen3 CSP targets higher operation temperatures, which strengthens the corrosivity issues associated to molten salts.

Prefix Block-Interchanges on Binary and Ternary Strings [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
The genome rearrangement problem computes the minimum number of operations that are required to sort all elements of a permutation. A block-interchange operation exchanges two blocks of a permutation which are not necessarily adjacent and in a prefix block-interchange, one block is always the prefix of that permutation.

Concepts for a Semantically Accessible Materials Data Space: Overview over Specific Implementations in Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This manuscript presents advances in digital transformation within materials science and engineering, emphasizing the role of the MaterialDigital Initiative. By testing and applying concepts such as ontologies, knowledge graphs, and integrated workflows, it promotes semantic interoperability and data‐driven innovation. The article reviews collaborative

Self-co-operative ternary pulse-compression sequences

open access: yesSadhana, 1996
An algorithm called a Hamming scan was developed recently for obtaining sequences with large merit factors and is adopted here to obtain such sequences within which there are nontrivial segments of large merit factors. Correlative detection of the return signal can be based simultaneously on the entire sequence and its segments with large merit factors.
