Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Thermodynamic modeling of the Hf-Ta-O system for the design of oxidation resistant HfC-TaC ceramics

open access: yesOpen Ceramics
An improved understanding of the oxidation resistance of HfC-TaC ultra-high temperature ceramics (UHTCs) is developed through modeling of the phase equilibria in the Hf-Ta-O system and HfO2-Ta2O5 isoplethal section. CALculation of PHAse Diagrams (CALPHAD)

The Rachford-Rice equation: application to ternary diagram [PDF]

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Ensino de Física
Ternary phase diagrams in liquid-liquid equilibrium, for the water-ethanol-ethyl acetate system, were calculated and the results presented in rectangular and triangular diagrams. Initially, the thermodynamical background and the conditions of equilibrium

Phase equilibrium modeling for high temperature metallization on GaAs solar cells [PDF]

open access: yes
Recent trends in performance specifications and functional requirements have brought about the need for high temperature metallization technology to be developed for survivable DOD space systems and to enhance solar cell reliability.

Recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming and confer resistance to targeted therapies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that the majority of the 18 analyzed recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming. The most potent mutations are activating, co‐operate with other ERBB receptors, and are sensitive to pan‐ERBB inhibitors. Activating ERBB4 mutations also promote therapy resistance in EGFR‐mutant lung cancer.

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Experimental Study of Phase Composition of B-Fe-Mn-V Alloys and Thermodynamic Calculations of Phase Equilibria in the B-Mn-V and B-Fe-Mn-V Systems

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2018
Phase compositions of B-Fe-Mn-V alloys were studied by several experimental methods (DTA measurement, X-ray diffractions, and scanning electron microscopy). Besides the experimental study of the quaternary system, thermodynamic modelling of the ternary B-

Systematic Investigation of Co-Crystallization Properties in Binary and Ternary Mixtures of Triacylglycerols Containing Palmitic and Oleic Acids in Relation with Palm Oil Dry Fractionation

open access: yesFoods, 2020
This work investigates the molecular interactions within the main triacylglycerols constitutive of palm oil, all having a key role in the multi-step dry fractionation process.

Phenotypic and genotypic characterization of single circulating tumor cells in the follow‐up of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Single circulating tumor cells (sCTCs) from high‐grade serous ovarian cancer patients were enriched, imaged, and genomically profiled using WGA and NGS at different time points during treatment. sCTCs revealed enrichment of alterations in Chromosomes 2, 7, and 12 as well as persistent or emerging oncogenic CNAs, supporting sCTC identity.

Phase stability of Ce, La and U oxides in the presence of hydrogen and water: Thermodynamic modeling and experimental insights

open access: yesChemical Thermodynamics and Thermal Analysis
Standard metal-oxygen or metal-hydrogen phase diagrams neglect the presence of water vapor. However, water vapor present in the environment often destabilizes the oxide or hydride phase, leading to the stabilization of hydroxide, oxy-hydroxide or hydrate
