Traditional landscape and rural development: comparative study in three terraced areas in northern, central and southern Italy to evaluate the efficacy of GAEC standard 4.4 of cross compliance

open access: yesItalian Journal of Agronomy, 2011
The recent National Strategic Plan 2007-2013 has introduced landscape as a strategic objective of the rural sector. This represents a minor revolution in the way of visualizing the role of the landscape, together with that of agriculture and the rural ...

Turning Unpredictable Biomolecule Adsorption to Controlled Corona Formation: Focus on Carbon Nanomaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Controlling the protein corona formation onto carbon nanomaterials (CNMs) enhances their functionalities as platforms for cancer theranostics. Here, we reviewed the effects of the intrinsic and acquired properties of CNMs on protein corona formation, the consequent biological and toxicological outcomes, and the strategies to reshape corona formation ...

Ferromagnetism of Molecular Beam Epitaxy‐grown Ultra‐thin Cr2Ge2Te6 Films Down to the Monolayer Limit on Si Substrates

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Uniform monolayer Cr2Ge2Te6 films are achieved on Si substrates by molecular beam epitaxy. Intrinsic ferromagnetism with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy is established in the films by anomalous Hall effect and superconducting quantum interference device measurements, albeit with strong magnetic fluctuations characteristic of its 2D nature.

Cerna River terraces between Bãile Herculane and Orsova [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of the University of Bucharest: Geography Series, 2017
This study displays a detailed analysis of Cerna river terraces along its final 20 km (its lower reach). The main working method was the field charting during a number of campaigns. The starting point were previous studies concerning Cerna river Valley,

Weaving Intelligence: Thermally Drawn Multimaterial Fibers Toward AI‐Enabled Smart Textiles

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Thermally drawn multimaterial fibers are rapidly advancing as intelligent structural units for next‐generation smart textiles. Integrating multimaterial architectures with neuromorphic and spiking‐neural‐network principles enables fabrics that can sense, compute, and adapt autonomously.

Linking Inca Terraces with Landslide Occurrence in the Ticsani Valley, Peru

open access: yesGeosciences
Since the times of the Incas, farmers in the remote Andes of Peru have constructed terraces to grow crops in a landscape characterized by steep slopes, semiarid climate, and landslide geohazards.

Ultra‐High‐Throughput Discovery of Multifunctional Polyphenolic Coatings on Droplet Microarrays

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An ultra‐high‐throughput (UHT) combinatorial strategy enables the miniaturized synthesis and screening of ≈30 000 polyamine‐polyphenolic (PaPp) coatings using droplet microarrays (DMA). This approach reveals hundreds of previously unknown fluorescent, redox‐active, and antibacterial materials, including multifunctional, cell‐compatible surfaces ...

Palaeochannels of the upper central Murray and lower Goulburn rivers, southeastern Australia

open access: yesJournal of Maps
Palaeochannel systems are characteristic of alluvial plains across large parts of the Australian continent, but their evolution and modes of formation are still only partly understood.

Terraces

open access: yes, 2018
What are terraces? A terrace is an earthen embankment constructed across a field slope, typically following the contour, and can be designed to temporarily store runoff or convey runoff to waterways.

Step‐Edge Functionalization by N‐Heterocyclic Carbenes Enhances Catalytic Activity in Electrochemical CO2 Reduction

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Atomically precise functionalization by N‐heterocyclic carbenes enhances the catalytic efficiency of macroscopically defined step edges toward electrochemical CO2${\rm CO}_2$ reduction. Sub‐molecular imaging reveals conformational differences between specific NHCs, which can be correlated with their catalytic performance. Photoelectron spectroscopy and
