Analysis of terrain using multispectral images

Pattern Recognition, 1997
Automated terrain analysis is required for many practical applications, such as outdoor navigation, image exploitation, remote sensing, reconnaissance and surveillance. In this paper, we present a hierarchical approach to analyze multispectral (MS) imagery for autonomous land vehicle navigation.

Terrain analysis from curvature profiles

International Journal of Imaging Systems and Technology, 1990
AbstractThis paper describes a new algorithm which uses Gaussian and mean curvature values of the terrain surface to extract feature points. These points are then used for recognition of particular subregions of the terrain and in estimating relative positions of these subregions in the terrain.

Software for Modelling and Analysis of Rover on Terrain

Proceedings of Conference on Advances In Robotics, 2013
Wheeled rovers traversing soft terrain are subjected to extensive testing to determine the slope climbing limits, obstacle limits, steering limits and drive torque/power requirements. To understand the wheel soil interaction and reduce the number of tests, simulation software enabling virtual runs of the rover on soft soil have been developed by Space ...

Performance analysis and terrain classification for a legged robot over rough terrain

2012 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems, 2012
Minimally actuated millirobotic crawlers navigate unreliably over uneven terrain-even when designed with inherent stability-mostly because of manufacturing variabilities and a lack of good models for ground interaction. In this paper, we investigate the performance of a legged robot as it traverses three distinct rough terrains: tile, carpet, and ...

Terrain analysis and locomotion control of a hexapod robot on uneven terrain

2014 9th IEEE Conference on Industrial Electronics and Applications, 2014
A terrain analysis method with a scanning laser range finder was proposed. For five typical kinds of terrain, including flat ground, vertical wall, slope, step and cuboid obstacle, the method can distinguish them successfully. Comparing with some methods used cameras, it's more simple and has less calculation.

Incremental terrain visibility analysis

SPIE Proceedings, 2006
Visibility analysis is an important aspect in terrain analysis. Terrain visibility calculation is a time-consuming process, and visibility algorithms are dedicated to reduce the algorithm complexity to enhance calculation speed. We use digital elevation model to represent terrain.
