Toward a Global Classification of Coastal Anthromes
Given incontrovertible evidence that humans are the most powerful agents of environmental change on the planet, research has begun to acknowledge and integrate human presence and activity into updated descriptions of the world’s biomes as “anthromes ...

Direct Detection of Extra-Solar Comets is Possible
The dust tails of comets similar to Hale-Bopp can scatter as much optical light as does the Earth. Space-based observatories such as the Terrestrial Planet Finder or Darwin that will detect extra-solar terrestrial planets also will be able to detect ...

Abundance of Terrestrial Planets by Microlensing [PDF]
Terrestrial planets may be detected using the gravitational microlensing technique. This was demonstrated in the high magnification event MACHO-98-BLG-35. Observing strategies aimed at measuring the abundance of terrestrial planets are discussed, using both existing telescopes and planned telescopes.

Chiral Sensing of Amino Acids under Visible Light via Hydroxypropyl Cellulose Gels
Hydroxypropyl cellulose gels enable visible‐light‐based chiral detection of amino acid enantiomers. This study showcases their structural color properties for distinguishing phenylalanine and alanine enantiomers. The gels exhibit pH‐responsive color changes, high sensitivity at low concentrations (0.2 wt.%), and long‐term stability, offering ...

The Impact of Extended CO2 Cross Sections on Temperate Anoxic Planet Atmospheres
Our interpretation of terrestrial exoplanet atmospheric spectra will always be limited by the accuracy of the data we use as input in our forward and retrieval models.

Critical Masses for Various Terrestrial Planet Atmospheric Gases and Water in/on Mars
The lower critical mass boundaries (CM) for various atmospheric gas species on terrestrial planets are estimated. The CM is different for different gas molecules.

We present the results of N--body simulations which examine the effect that gas giant planet migration has on the formation of terrestrial planets. The models incorporate a 0.5 Jupiter mass planet undergoing type II migration through an inner protoplanet-

Micromachined Double‐Membrane Mechanically Tunable Metamaterial for Thermal Infrared Filtering
Herein, a mechanically tunable double‐layer plasmonic metamaterial leveraging the extraordinary optical transmission effect observed in subwavelength arrays of openings within thin metal layers is presented. The concept is experimentally validated by integrating the proposed metamaterial structure into an electrostatic parallel‐plate actuator to create

Abstract Recent global events and the rise of sustainable investing have made clear that the chemical and energy industry must consider sustainability goals beyond profit maximization to remain competitive. Multiobjective optimization provides an ideal framework for analyzing sustainability tradeoffs, but when four or more objectives are considered ...
