Radiation Hardened Infrared Photodetectors Based on a Narrow Bandgap Conjugated Polymer Semiconductor

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
A blackbody‐sensitive infrared photodetector comprised of an open‐shell conjugated polymer demonstrates high sensitivity without cooling and exceptional radiation hardness, surpassing inorganic compound semiconductor devices. This functionality, inherent to the polymer semiconductor, provides a new frontier for low‐cost, size, weight, and power space ...

Improved Direct Ink Writing of Liquid Metal Foams via Liquid Additives

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
The ability to pattern liquid metal is useful for making soft electrical and thermal devices. Dispensing liquid metal from a nozzle naturally results in the formation of spheroidal droplets, making direct‐write printing challenging. Liquid metal foams containing pockets of air can extrude as filaments, albeit inconsistently.

Enabling High‐Voltage Polymer‐Based Solid‐State Batteries Through Reinforcements with LiAlO2 Fillers

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Polymer‐ceramic solid composite electrolytes with passive LiAlO2 fillers show remarkable improvements in Li‐ion conductivity in polycarbonates as compared to both non‐conductive Al2O3 and conductive Li7La3Zr2O12 counterparts. The exceptionally high transference numbers contribute to reversible and stable electrochemistry with Li‐metal electrodes and to

Quantifying the Impact of Cathode Composite Mixing Quality on Active Mass Utilization and Reproducibility of Solid‐State Battery Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
The origin of variations in solid‐state battery cell performance is explored and traced back mainly to the cathode composite mixing – leading to different fractions of electrochemically active mass. Machine‐mixed composites and the quantification of the electrochemically active mass enhance reproducibility and comparability.
