Na‐ion batteries ‐ Impact of doping on the oxygen redox: The sloping potential of NaMg0.1Ni0.4Mn0.5O2 above 4.0 V is caused by a new redox center (arising from the ‘O bound to Mg’), having a higher potential but being more irreversible compared to the ‘O bound to Ni’.

The Formation of Ultra-short-period Planets under the Influence of the Nearby Planetary Companions
Ultra-short-period (USP) planets, defined as those with orbital periods shorter than 1 day, provide valuable insights into planetary evolution under strong stellar tidal interactions.

The Woody Planet: From Past Triumph to Manmade Decline
Woodiness evolved in land plants approximately 400 Mya, and very soon after this evolutionary invention, enormous terrestrial surfaces on Earth were covered by dense and luxurious forests.

Real‐Time, Label‐Free Monitoring of Cell Behavior on a Bioelectronic Scaffold
A bioelectronic nanofibrous scaffold is introduced that supports cell growth while enabling real‐time, label‐free monitoring of cellular behavior through impedance measurements. The system correlates electrical signals with cell viability and surface coverage, offering an integrated platform for studying dynamic biological processes and advancing next ...

The Terrestrial Planet Finder [PDF]
The Terrestrial Planet Finder (TPF) is a space-based astronomical telescope that will combine high sensitivity and spatial resolution to detect and characterize /spl sim/150 planetary systems within 15 pc of our Sun. In a five-year mission, currently expected to commence in 2012, TPF will look for the atmospheric signatures of life using the methods of

Pullulan, a biomass‐derived polysaccharide, is transformed into transparent optical fibers using a solvent‐free borax hydrogel‐spinning method. The fibers outperform PMMA with ≈200 MPa tensile strength and 200 °C stability, while uniquely guiding visible‐to‐NIR light and enabling additive‐free humidity sensing.

The Promise of Solid Lubricants for a Sustainable Future
Lubricants are vital for technology, saving energy and resources. The industry seeks sustainable solutions beyond fossil fuels. Solid lubricants offer extremely low friction and reduce environmental impact, especially in harsh conditions. Can these solids truly replace liquid lubricants, or are they limited to extreme applications?
