ESIA (Environmental and Social Impact Assessment): a Tool to Minimize Territorial Conflicts

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2015
Starting from the spatial analysis of territorial vulnerability and local conflicts against the infrastructure development, the paper focuses on the potential benefit of ESIA in order to achieve an integrated assessment of environmental, economic and ...

Mapping the “Supply–Demand–Flow” of Ecosystem Services for Ecosystem Management in China

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study develops a “supply–demand–flow” framework clarifies how ecosystem services move between regions by distinguishing potential and actual supply and demand. Using integrated biophysical–socioeconomic modeling, nine services in China were mapped.

Delineation of and Conflict Coordination in Municipal Territorial Space Functional Zones: A Case Study of Xuzhou, China

open access: yesLand
Urbanization-driven land use and cover change intensifies the competition for limited land resources, exacerbating spatial conflicts and challenging sustainable development, particularly in rapidly urbanizing regions.

Coconstructions territoriales face à l’émergence de l’activité minière dans le Nord-Ouest argentin

open access: yesCahiers des Amériques Latines, 2016
Latin America territorial organization is strongly influenced by the inherited footprints left by the exploitation of natural resources. In Argentina, the 1990’s neoliberal turn promoted an extractive model for exportation that affected the spatial ...

Adult Sex Ratio as a Demographic Feedback Linking Mating Systems, Parental Care, and Evolution

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Breeding systems are some of the most diverse social behavior, and our team is investigation the evolutionary causes of this diversity. This review summarises our research carried out at the University of Bath. We argue that demographic components of wild populations, especially the adult sex ratio, plays a key role driving breeding system variation ...

Territorial Gestalt in the Strategy of Conflicts. [PDF]

open access: yes
Human social interactions can often be modeled as mixed-motive games, where cooperation and competition coexist. Although many studies have examined how people coordinate in purely cooperative settings, less is known about how individuals navigate severe, protracted conflicts to reach mutually beneficial settlements. In this study, we introduced a long-

The territory of Alto Guadiana: water as a conflict, conflict as a resource

open access: yes, 2021
This contribution proposes a new reading of the water conflict in the Alto Guadiana territory, where it might seem at first sight that everything has already been said. From the qualitative analysis of discourses in application of the grounded theory method, the territorial function of the conflict is discussed under a social geography approach ...

Tunable Negative Thermal Expansion in Fe/Cr‐Substituted Nd2Co17 Compounds via Magnetoelastic Coupling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study achieves anisotropic thermal expansion tuning in Nd2(Co1‐xFex)17‐yCry compounds via a magnetoelastic strategy. Variable‐temperature synchrotron X‐ray diffraction reveals that increased Fe content induces switchable lattice responses. Compositional control reduces the volume expansion coefficient αV by 20% (x═0.7) and modulates TC (442–625 K),

Multi‐Omics Insights Into the Mechanisms of Early Muscle Fiber Difference and Transformation Between Lean‐Type and Chinese Indigenous Pigs

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Multi‐omics analyses uncover breed‐specific cis‐regulatory landscapes and higher‐order chromatin architectural differences that underlie early postnatal muscle fiber divergence in pigs. A super‐enhancer upstream of PPP3CB recruits MEF2C to activate PPP3CB transcription, while the PPP3CB–MEF2C positive feedback loop promotes oxidative muscle fiber ...

Ethical Precision in Nanoscale Brain Interfacing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
As brain interfaces approach the nanoscale, precision no longer only measures—it knows, predicts, and potentially reshapes the mind. This work argues that traditional ethics fails under such conditions and proposes a shift toward continuous, operation‐based governance using the recovery–discovery framework to track, constrain, and responsibly steer ...
