Transport Infrastructures and Acceptability: the Role of Economic Evaluation for Conflict Mitigation

open access: yesTeMA: Journal of Land Use, Mobility and Environment, 2011
Large and medium-size transport infrastructure shall increasingly cope with acceptability-related problems. This is due to the lack of confidence that nowadays characterises the relations between public administrations and their citizens, as well as ...

Detecting social‐ecological fit in Natura 2000 governance and management: Evidence from LIFE projects focused on forest protected habitat types

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract Protected areas represent complex social‐ecological systems that require governance and management approaches that valorise and enhance positive relationships between people and nature. This study analyses the alignment between social and ecological systems to detect the social‐ecological fit of projects focused on biodiversity conservation ...

Microclimate refugia shape microclimatic niches and predict individual variability in post‐breeding migration in a partially migratory species

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
The niche is characterized along a gradient of temperature and microclimate refugia. Individuals in breeding areas with low microclimate refugia availability are more likely to cover larger distances to post‐breeding areas, increasing exposure to risks.

Using the Regional Ocean Modelling System (ROMS) to improve the sea surface temperature predictions of the MERCATOR Ocean System

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2012
Global models are generally capable of reproducing the observed trends in the globally averaged sea surface temperature (SST). However, the global models do not perform as well on regional scales.

Soil community structure across native and exotic forests is shaped by edaphoclimatic conditions and eukaryotic biomarkers

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, EarlyView.
Our results point to the importance of taking management decisions for these forests considering regional conditions as well as forest type. The provided list of soil keystone taxa should be taken into account in future research and soil monitoring, which is essential for sustainable management of land.

TOWARDS A DEGROWTH CRITIQUE OF AEROMOBILITIES: An Urban Political Ecology Perspective on the Airport Expansion Resistance in Barcelona

open access: yesInternational Journal of Urban and Regional Research, EarlyView.
Abstract Aeromobilities—socio‐technical systems that lock in dependence on fossil fuel‐based mobilities—contribute substantially to climate change and uneven geographies. They represent paradigmatic capitalism‐driven forms of metabolism, permeated by logics of efficiency and growth. While existing literature has examined resistance to airport expansion,
