Group testing problems with sequences in experimental molecular biology

Proceedings. Compression and Complexity of SEQUENCES 1997 (Cat. No.97TB100171), 2002
Group testing is a basic paradigm for experimental design. In computational biology, group testing problems come up in designing experiments with sequences for mapping, screening libraries, etc. While a great deal of classical research has been done on group testing over the last fifty years, the current biological applications bring up many new issues

Multispectral Imaging System Applied to Element Testing of Biology

2008 International Conference on BioMedical Engineering and Informatics, 2008
In order to test the content and distribution of elements, a multispectral imaging system is presented in the paper. The liquid crystal tunable filters (LCTFs) are placed into an ordinary optical imaging system as the spectrum-dividing component. The spectrum resolution of the system is up to 0.5 nm, and the spatial resolution depends on the LCTFs, CCD

Scoliosis and Developmental Biology: Testing The Hypothesis

1999
It is generally believed that scoliosis with a left thoracic convexity is more likely to have underlying pathology than the commoner right pattern. Examination of the scoliosis database showed that infantile idiopathic and congenital scoliosis have a random distribution of right and left curve patterns.

The importance of prediction testing in evolutionary biology

Erkenntnis, 1982
It is clear from the above discussion that if I had wished to do so I could have truthfully presented every paper as either testing a prediction, presenting evidence needed in the test of a prediction, or presentin a D-N explanation. (I would not have been able to do this if I had not been sufficiently familiar with the evolutionary literature to ...

Testing HIV molecular biology in in silico physiologies.

Proceedings. International Conference on Intelligent Systems for Molecular Biology, 1995
The natural and medical sciences have strongly benefitted from technological advances that help to create and store more raw information than can be effectively processed. In particular, this rapid growth has created a strong need for a flexible and far-reaching approach to cross-database simulation.

Multiple Testing Tool to Detect Combinatorial Effects in Biology

2018
Detecting combinatorial effects is important to various research areas, including biology, genomics, and medical sciences. However, this task was not only computationally nontrivial but also extremely difficult to achieve because of the necessity of a multiple testing procedure; hence few methods can comprehensively analyze high-order combinations ...
