An orchestrated intron retention program in meiosis controls timely usage of transcripts during germ cell differentiation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Global transcriptome reprogramming during sper-matogenesis ensures timely expression of factors in each phase of male germ cell differentiation. Sper-matocytes and spermatids require particularly exten-sive reprogramming of gene expression to switch from

Two Decades from the Introduction of Microdissection Testicular Sperm Extraction: How This Surgical Technique Has Improved the Management of NOA

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Medicine, 2021
The treatment of men with non-obstructive azoospermia (NOA) has improved greatly over the past two decades. This is in part due to the discovery of in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), but also significantly due to ...

Three cases of sperm immobility for intracytoplasmic sperm injection using testicular sperm

open access: yesIJU Case Reports
Introduction Sperm immobility is a condition in which sperm are viable but not motile. We reported three patients with sperm immobility, who underwent testicular sperm extraction‐intracytoplasmic sperm injection.

Comparison of sperm retrieval and reproductive outcome in azoospermic men with testicular failure and obstructive azoospermia treated for infertility

open access: yesAsian Journal of Andrology, 2014
We assessed the rates of sperm retrieval and intracytoplasmic sperm injection outcomes, including the neonatal profile of infants conceived, in men with testicular failure.

Surgical management of nonobstructive azoospermia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Nonobstructive azoospermia (NOA) is characterized by the complete absence of sperm in the ejaculate due to testicular failure. The evaluation and management of patients with NOA offer a challenge to the reproductive urologist.

Short peptide perturbs spermatogenesis via immune microenvironment dysregulation and mitochondrial imbalance

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In the blood–testis barrier, occludin is crucial for tight junctions. This study demonstrates that occludin‐targeting short peptides disrupt junction integrity, inducing immune cell infiltration, tumor necrosis factor‐α/interleukin‐6 secretion and mitochondrial dysfunction, ultimately triggering apoptosis.

Performing Microdissection Testicular Sperm Extraction: Surgical Pearls from a High-Volume Infertility Center

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Medicine, 2021
Microdissection testicular sperm extraction (mTESE) has been demonstrated to be the gold-standard surgical technique for retrieving testicular sperm in patients with non-obstructive azoospermia (NOA) as it enables the exploration of the whole testicular ...

Compound Heterozygous Variants in ZSWIM7 Gene Linked to Infertility and Its Role in Gonadal Development

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study aims to elucidate the role of the ZSWIM7 gene in the etiology of infertility, focusing on its potential association with premature ovarian insufficiency and azoospermia. We investigated an 18‐year‐old female patient who presented with primary amenorrhea, hypoplasia of the uterus and ovaries, Tanner stage II breast and pubic hair ...
