Newly discovered early Palaeozoic intraplate volcanic rocks within the southern Kunlun Orogen provide an opportunity to examine the middle to late Silurian tectonic setting of this area. This study presents new whole-rock geochemical and zircon U–Pb geochronological and Lu–Hf isotope data for the Silurian volcanic rocks of the Wanbaogou area, South ...

Introduction The studied area is situated 15 km away from the southwest of Maimeh at the western part of Urumieh-Dokhtar magmatic arc. This zone is a part of the Zagros orogenic belt formed due to the subduction of the Neo-Tethyan oceanic crust under ...

Switching extensional and contractional tectonics in the West Kunlun Mountains during the Jurassic period: responses to the Neo-Tethyan geodynamics along the Eurasian margin [PDF]
The Tethyan orogenic belt records a long-lived geological cycle involving subduction and collision along the southern margin of the Eurasian continent.

Introduction The Iranian plateau is part of the Alpine-Himalayan orogenic belt, which consists of several continental fragments separated from each other by major boundary faults and/or ophiolitic suture zones (Gansser, 1981).

Geology of the Saint-Marcel valley metaophiolites (Northwestern Alps, Italy)
The geological map of the Saint-Marcel valley at the scale of 1:20,000 illustrates the tectonic setting of metaophiolites from the southern Aosta Valley, in the Italian side of the Western Alpine belt.

Middle Triassic turbidites in the Youjiang Basin were chiefly derived from a Late Palaeozoic continental arc along the southeastern South China Block, as revealed by detrital zircon U–Pb geochronology and tourmaline geochemistry, supporting a tectonic model driven by Paleo‐Pacific subduction rather than Paleo‐Tethyan closure.

Abstract The slab breakoff model is a preferred geodynamic interpretation for post‐collisional exhumation and associated magmatic flare‐ups. In this study, rutile U–Pb dating of retrograde eclogites revealed distinct stages of exhumation along the Paleo‐Tethyan sutures in southwest China. The studied samples yielded ages of 246.7 ± 8.5 and 239.7 ± 14.0
