Chloramphenicol and Tetracyclines
Medical Clinics of North America, 1987Tetracyclines have a broad range of clinical usefulness because of their broad antimicrobial spectrum of activity. For most routine gram positive and gram negative infections, alternative agents are available, but for Chlamydiae, Rickettsiae, Brucella, and Borrelia they still remain agents of choice.

Abstract Tumors induced in hamsters were examined at various times following single intraperitoneal tetracycline injections. The distribution of tetracycline fluorescence in the tumor was found to vary with time in such a way as to permit the resolution of two distinct patterns, transitory and permanent.

A shortened 8-mer ssDNA aptamer was successfully truncated for four different tetracyclines with high affinity. The ultrasensitive colorimetric detection of oxytetracycline using this shortened aptamer was possible, which was about 500-fold enhanced ...

Tetracyclines are natural or semi-synthetic bacteriostatic agents which have been used since late 1940s against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and atypical organisms such as chlamydia, mycoplasmas, rickettsia, and protozoan parasites.

A quantum dot-based immunoassay for screening of tetracyclines in bovine muscle.
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2014A reliable and robust direct screening methodology based on a quantum dot (QD) fluorescent immunoassay has been developed to detect trace levels of different antibiotic species from the family of the tetracyclines (e.g., oxytetracycline, tetracycline ...

Antigenicity of the tetracyclines
Journal of Allergy, 1965Abstract Specific antisera to oxytetracycline were produced in rabbits. The antibody was shown to be in the globulin fraction by DEAE-Sephadex separation. Its activity was demonstrated by tanned-cell hemagglutination, hemagglutination-inhibition, and the Schultz-Dale smooth muscle contraction phenomenon.

The tetracyclines, among the first of the antibiotics to become available 50 years ago, remain widely used. Tetracyclines have bacteriostatic activity against a wide variety of pathogens that are responsible for many common and some exotic infections.
