TETRAHYDROFURANS: II. SPIRO COMPOUNDS CONTAINING THE TETRAHYDROFURAN RING
Canadian Journal of Chemistry, 19632-Allyl-2-methallyl-1,3-propanediol (IV) and 2,2-dimethallyl-1,3-propanediol (V) were cyclized in the presence of mineral acid to give 3,3,8-trimethyl-2,7-dioxaspiro(4.4)nonane (VIII) and 3,3,8,8-tetramethyl-2,7-dioxaspiro(4.4)nonane (IX), respectively. Similarly, 2-methallyl-2-(3-methyl-2-butenyl)-1,3-propanediol (VI) afforded 3,3,8,8-tetramethyl-2,7-

Cyanoethylation of tetrahydrofuran
Chemistry of Heterocyclic Compounds, 1967It is shown that it is possible to carry out free radical cyanoethylation of tetrahydrofuran, to give the nitrile of α-tetrahydrofuranpropionic acid in 50–60% yield.

Polymerization of tetrahydrofuran
Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 1962AbstractTetrahydrofuran has been polymerized in bulk using 5–20 wt.‐% BF3 without the addition of cocatalysts to give a very high molecular weight, crystalline polymer which exhibits cold‐drawability, toughness, and low temperature flexibility. Within the ranges studied a maximum conversion of 74% was reached at 10% BF3 and 10°C.
