DNA barcoding of Cynoglossus arel using mitochondrial COI and 16S rRNA genes

open access: yesIndian Journal of Animal Sciences, 2020
DNA barcoding is not a substitute for taxonomy; however, it does provide a powerful tool to aid species identifications and focus on future taxonomic research efforts.

Geographic range expansion of Ephippion guttifer (Tetraodontidae) in the north‐eastern Atlantic [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, 2018
The first record of the prickly puffer Ephippion guttifer (Tetraodontidae) from Galician waters (north‐west Spain) is reported based on a male specimen of 570 mm total length (LT) caught in the Ría de Vigo. Morphometric, meristic and DNA barcode data confirmed the identification.

Restoring mangrove biodiversity: can restored mangroves support fish assemblages comparable to natural mangroves over time?

open access: yesRestoration Ecology, Volume 33, Issue 4, May 2025.
Despite the recent global increase in mangrove restoration efforts, our understanding of the outcomes and recovery of biodiversity and re‐establishing functionality, such as productive fish habitat, is limited due to the lack of long‐term monitoring. Here, we used a space‐for‐time approach to investigate whether restored mangroves attain similar fish ...

The presence of Tetraodontidae species in the Central Mediterranean: an update from the southern Adriatic Sea

open access: yesActa Adriatica, 2017
This paper presents the first record of the Lessepsian migrant fish Lagocephalus sceleratus (silver-cheeked toadfish) on the Italian side of the south Adriatic Sea. In addition, four specimens of Sphoeroides pachygaster (blunthead puffer) were analysed. Meristic and morphometric data of the silver-cheeked toadfish and blunthead puffer are in accordance

Ichthyoplankton distribution and abundance in the northern Todos os Santos and Camamu Bays, Bahia State - Brazil

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Oceanography, 2011
The occurrence, distribution and abundance of ichthyoplankton in Todos os Santos and Camamu Bays were analyzed based on four samplings (winter 2003, summer 2003, winter 2004 and summer 2005). Samples were obtained by surface horizontal hauls, using a 200-

Design and Validation of an Open–Close Device for Integrated Environmental DNA Sampling Detects A Depth Gradient in Indian Ocean Deep‐Sea Fish Assemblages

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 2, February 2025.
The goal of this study was to leverage existing survey technology to design and test an eDNA sampler that captures an integrated eDNA sample over the length of a deep‐water transect. We provide a biological interpretation of the resulting data, demonstrating the usefulness of such technology to understand the ocean environments, using fish species as ...
