Larval Pigmentation Reveals Environmental and Genetic Influences in Hybridizing Ambystoma Salamanders

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 8, August 2025.
We investigated UV‐induced pigmentation responses in Ambystoma barbouri, A. texanum, and their hybrids, finding that A. barbouri larvae darken more strongly than A. texanum, with hybrids showing intermediate phenotypes closer to their maternal lineage.

Guidelines for Enhanced Recovery After Trauma and Intensive Care (ERATIC): Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) Society and International Association of Trauma Surgery and Intensive Care (IATSIC) Recommendations: Paper 1: Initial Care—Pre and Intraoperative Care Until ICU, Including Non‐Operative Management

open access: yesWorld Journal of Surgery, Volume 49, Issue 8, Page 1997-2028, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols reduce length of stay, complications, and costs for elective surgical procedures. It remains challenging to implement ERAS concepts in the acute trauma patient due to deranged physiological reserve from the penetrating or blunt trauma producing altered physiology.

Interactive Effects of Warming and Competition Do Not Limit the Adaptive Plastic Response to Drought in Populations of a Mediterranean Plant

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 31, Issue 7, July 2025.
Plants can modify their phenotype (i.e., the characteristics of an individual) in response to environmental changes, a phenomenon termed phenotypic plasticity. Adaptive plasticity may maintain or increase individual fitness, being crucial to cope with complex environmental changes.
