Carcass traits and meat quality of Texel lambs raised in Brachiaria pasture and feedlot systems.
Animal science journal = Nihon chikusan Gakkaiho, 2020Our hypothesis suggests an improvement in carcass and meat quality of pasture-finished animals by introducing concentrate feed into diets. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of different levels of protein-energy supplementation on carcass and meat ...

Journal of Sustainable Tourism, 2004
This paper analyses the sustainable development of tourism on the island of Texel, The Netherlands. It utilises the so-called 'corporate response model to the macro-marketing environment' to conceptualise the multi-dimensionality of the sustainability concept. This model differentiates among four 'margins' within which a tourism region operates.

To describe an outbreak of congenital microphthalmia in Texel lambs in New Zealand.Affected eyes were fixed in 10% formol saline, processed routinely for histopathology and stained with haematoxylin and eosin, Holme's silver and haematoxylin with and without luxol fast blue, and luxol fast blue alone.Macroscopically, the globes and optic nerves were ...

Inherited chondrodysplasia in Texel sheep
New Zealand Veterinary Journal, 2005A skeletal disease characterised by dwarfism, limb deformity and sometimes sudden death occurred over a period of 5 years in lambs born on a commercial sheep farm in Southland. The disease showed variable expression and occurred in crossbred sheep. A genetic aetiology was supported by the birth of affected lambs over two seasons in a flock of putative ...

The effect of the Texel Muscling QTL on live and carcass weight in Texel lambs
Small Ruminant Research, 2012Abstract The Texel Muscling QTL (TM-QTL) is a QTL affecting loin muscling in Texel sheep with a paternal polar overdominant pattern of expression. This study on purebred Texel sheep used the first available data to include homozygote TM-QTL carriers in addition to homozygote non-carriers and both heterozygotes to assess the effect of TM-QTL on live ...

Method for 3-D Scene Reconstruction Using Fused LiDAR and Imagery From a Texel Camera
IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 2019Reconstructing a 3-D scene from aerial sensor data creating a textured digital surface model (TDSM), consisting of a LiDAR point cloud and an overlaid image, is valuable in many applications including agriculture, military, surveying, and natural ...

Abstract The aquarium of the Netherlands Institute for Sea Research on Texel is described. A hall of 450 m2 and an outdoor area of 8000 m2 offer facilities for the ad hoc construction of experimental apparatus. The hall can be used with natural or artificial homogenous lighting. Ten identical sea water circuits are available comprising storage tanks,

Energy requirements of Texel crossbred lambs1
Journal of Animal Science, 2008Two trials were conducted to determine the energy requirements of feedlot Texel crossbred lambs. In a comparative slaughter trial, thirty 11/16 Texel x 5/16 Ile de France crossbred noncastrated male lambs, weaned at 42 d of age (16.2 +/- 2.1 kg of shrunk BW; SBW), were used.

Genotypic effects of the Texel Muscling QTL (TM-QTL) on meat quality in purebred Texel lambs
Meat Science, 2011Texel Muscling QTL (TM-QTL) increases loin muscling in lambs inheriting it from their sire only. This study investigated TM-QTL effects on meat quality in 209 Texel lambs that were CT-scanned then slaughtered at 20weeks (carcasses aged for ~1week). Loin meat quality traits included: CT-measured muscle density (predicting intramuscular fat); mechanical ...
