Programmable Pneumatic Actuator System for a Bioinspired Artificial Colon

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A modular soft robotic colon simulator driven by programmable pneumatic actuation is developed to mimic physiological and pathological‐like motility patterns of the large intestine. Finite element–guided design and distributed control enable anatomically realistic deformation for peristalsis, segmentation, and mass movements, supporting capsule ...

CLIP-PAE: Projection-Augmentation Embedding to Extract Relevant Features for a Disentangled, Interpretable, and Controllable Text-Guided Face Manipulation [PDF]

open access: yes
Recently introduced Contrastive Language-Image Pre-Training (CLIP) bridges images and text by embedding them into a joint latent space. This opens the door to ample literature that aims to manipulate an input image by providing a textual explanation ...

Surrogate‐Optimized Flow‐Guided Miniature Condenser for Rapid Exhaled Glucose Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A surrogate‐optimized miniature condenser guides humid exhaled flow toward cold surfaces to accelerate exhaled breath condensate collection. By improving vapor access within a compact footprint, the design increases sample yield. This enables post‐collection enrichment and rapid colorimetric glucose detection from dilute exhaled biomarkers within a 5 ...

Programmable Variable‐Stiffness Multilayer Elastomer Composites With High‐Aspect‐Ratio Low‐Melting‐Point Alloy Inclusions

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
High‐aspect‐ratio low‐melting‐point alloy inclusions are embedded within multilayer silicone laminates to create thermally programmable stiffness. Sequential activation of alloy‐rich layers produces four distinct mechanical states and reconfigures tendon‐driven actuator trajectories under the same load.

Photoluminescent Color Centers on a Mainstream Silicon Photonic Foundry Platform

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Silicon photonic chips route and process light efficiently but are inherently inefficient at generating it. Here, bright light‐emitting defects, W‐centers, are written into the silicon layer of finished chips from a mainstream commercial foundry: high‐energy ions are implanted straight through the protective oxide and activated by a 250∘C$^\circ{\rm C}$

Micromachined Double‐Membrane Mechanically Tunable Metamaterial for Thermal Infrared Filtering

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, Volume 6, Issue 5, May 2025.
Herein, a mechanically tunable double‐layer plasmonic metamaterial leveraging the extraordinary optical transmission effect observed in subwavelength arrays of openings within thin metal layers is presented. The concept is experimentally validated by integrating the proposed metamaterial structure into an electrostatic parallel‐plate actuator to create

Scalable Task Planning via Large Language Models and Structured World Representations

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This work efficiently combines graph‐based world representations with the commonsense knowledge in Large Language Models to enhance planning techniques for the large‐scale environments that modern robots will need to face. Planning methods often struggle with computational intractability when solving task‐level problems in large‐scale environments ...
