Handwritten Text Line Segmentation by Shredding Text into its Lines
2009 10th International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition, 2009In this paper, we propose a novel technique to segment handwritten document images into text lines by shredding their surface with local minima tracers. Our approach is based on the topological assumption that for each text line, there exists a path from one side of the image to the other that traverses only one text line.

Text line detection and segmentation
Proceedings of the 2010 ACM Symposium on Applied Computing, 2010A line detection and segmentation technique is presented. The proposed technique is an improved version of an older technique. The experiments have been performed on the dataset of the ICDAR 2007 handwriting segmentation contest in order to be able to compare, objectively, the performance of the two techniques.

A New Method for Text-Line Segmentation for Warped Documents
2010Bound documents either scanned or captured with digital cameras often present a geometrical warp that makes text-lines curled. The identification of text-lines is one of the steps for document de-warping when only a single image is available. This paper presents a new method for text-line segmentation.

Learning Text-Line Segmentation Using Codebooks and Graph Partitioning
2012 International Conference on Frontiers in Handwriting Recognition, 2012In this paper, we present a codebook based method for handwritten text-line segmentation which uses image-patches in the training data to learn a graph-based similarity for clustering. We first construct a codebook of image-patches using K-medoids, and obtain exemplars which encode local evidence.
