Text Line Segmentation with the Parametric Water Flow Algorithm

open access: yesInformation Technology And Control, 2016
The manuscript proposes an extension to the water flow algorithm for the text line segmentation. The basic algorithm assumes the hypothetical water that flows under few specified angles of the document image frame from left to right and vice versa. It establishes wetted and unwetted image regions. The unwetted regions are labeled and separated.

Text line segmentation for gray scale historical document images [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 2011 Workshop on Historical Document Imaging and Processing, 2011
In this paper we present a new approach for text line segmentation that works directly on gray-scale document images. Our algorithm constructs distance transform directly on the gray-scale images, which is used to compute two types of seams: medial seams and separating seams.

Neurochemical Endpoints to Inform Early‐Stage Trials of Spinocerebellar Ataxia 2 and 3 in a Multisite Setting

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Neurochemical levels measured by brain MR spectroscopy (MRS) have been proposed as endpoints for clinical trials in early‐stage spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA) trials. We tested their trial‐readiness by quantifying neurochemicals in three affected brain regions in early‐stage cohorts of SCA2 and SCA3, examining their reproducibility in ...

The Multiple Sclerosis Severity Allele rs10191329A and Cognitive Function: A UK Biobank Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The genome‐wide association study of Multiple Sclerosis severity linked the genetic variant rs10191329A to long‐term disability and implicated brain resilience as a determinant of outcome. We hypothesised that rs10191329A might influence cognition in other neurological diseases and healthy controls.

Neurologic Manifestations of Long COVID Affect Adult Females More Severely Than Males

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To characterize differences in neurologic manifestations of postacute sequelae of SARS‐CoV‐2 infection (Neuro‐PASC) between females and males. Methods Cross‐sectional study of the first consecutive 261 posthospitalization Neuro‐PASC (PNP) and 2068 nonhospitalized Neuro‐PASC (NNP) patients evaluated at the Neuro‐COVID clinic between ...

Risk of Retinopathy Associated with Long‐Term Use of Hydroxychloroquine in Patients with Rheumatic Diseases: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We aimed to estimate the prevalence and cumulative incidence of hydroxychloroquine retinopathy (HCQ‐R) and its risk factors among patients receiving long‐term HCQ with rheumatic diseases through a systematic review and meta‐analysis of observational studies that used spectral‐domain optical coherence tomography (SD‐OCT) for screening ...
