Corpus Text Annotation

2021
Some of the basic and preliminary ideas of text annotation and text processing techniques, which are normally carried out on a corpus of written and spoken texts are addressed in this chapter. Keeping non-trained linguistic scholars and common linguistic readers in view, we briefly discuss the basic nature and goal of text annotation, describe the ...

Gemedoc: A Text Similarity Annotation Platform

2018
We present Gemedoc, a platform for text similarity annotation based on the spatial and the thematic dimension. To this end, a two-step annotation protocol was designed to assess the similarity between two documents: (1) identification of salient features according to the two analysis dimensions; (2) similarity assessment according to a 4-degree scale ...

Extracting semantic annotations from legal texts

Proceedings of the 20th ACM conference on Hypertext and hypermedia, 2009
This paper illustrates a system designed to automatically extract semantic annotations of the normative modifications present in legal texts. The work relies on a deep parsing approach. The problem of semantically annotating legal texts is cast to the problem of mapping parse trees to semantic frames representing such modifications.

Embedding semantic annotations within texts

Proceedings of the 27th Annual ACM Symposium on Applied Computing, 2012
In order to make semantic assertions about the text content of a document we need a mechanism to identify and organize the text structures of the document itself. Such mechanism would closely resemble a document-oriented markup language and would be free of the classical constraints of an embedded markup language, having no limitations given by ...

Selection of Annotated Texts

2019
Abstract The selection of texts comprises extracts not only from the courtly literature of the Middle High German Classical period such as Erec, the Nibelungenlied, Parzival, Tristan, and the lyrics of Walther von der Vogelweide, but also from religious literature, writings on natural history, chronicles, and legal texts. Verse and prose

Representing Annotated Texts as RDF

2020
Text annotation consists in defining markables (elements to be annotated), their features (attributes and values of annotations) and relations between markables (e.g. syntactic dependencies or semantic links). In this chapter we describe the principles for annotating text data using RDF-compliant formalisms.

Semantic annotation: mapping text to ontologies

International Journal of Metadata, Semantics and Ontologies, 2007
This position paper discusses various issues concerning the semantic web. We claim that reflection on formats has attracted the most important part of the research effort so far, whereas the web (including the future semantic web) is mainly made of texts.

Information retrieval from annotated texts

Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1999
Methods for the correct and efficient handling of annotations in a full-text retrieval system were investigated. The problem with annotations is that they cannot be treated as regular text, since this would disrupt proximity searches, but on the other hand, they cannot be ignored, as they may carry important information. Moreover, in some cases, a user

Annotations, multilingual texts, and full-text search

2020
In this chapter, we will see how to handle annotations in Python with Owlready. We will also see how to handle multilingual texts, often used in annotations, and how to optimize full-text searches.
