Assessing Law clinic – the use of digital patch text assessment as an alternative to traditional portfolios

open access: yesInternational Journal of Clinical Legal Education, 2014
The paper presents the use of ‘patch text assessment’ as an innovative assessment method being ‘a series of integrated patch text assessments which are ‘stitched’ together with a final ‘patch’ to form a complete coherent piece of work.

East-meets-West: How the Dhammapada Influenced the New Thought Movement [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
New Thought teachings are based on a variety of pre-existing traditions as well as on information new to the human consciousness. While the exact source of specific New Thought concepts is unclear, evidence suggests that the movement benefited from ...

Rafting of Ni‐Based Superalloys Under Multiaxial Load as Understood by Phase‐Field Simulations and Critical Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Phase‐field simulations coupled with dislocation‐density‐based crystal plasticity modeling reproduce γ′ rafting behavior in single‐crystal Ni‐based superalloys under varied loading conditions. The model captures both macroscopic creep and microscopic morphology evolution, with results matching high‐temperature creep experiments.

Rethinking European legal integration: legal text from a bottom-up perspective and the functioning of European law, 1957–2000

open access: yesEuropean Law Open
The article promotes a new methodological approach to examining the development of European law that significantly advances our understanding of European legal integration. Building on interdisciplinary debates on European law between historians, lawyers,

Oor hoe juriste werk met tekste ... en tekste met hulle - Enkele gedagtes oor die postmodernisering van Christelik-reformatoriese regsdenke

open access: yesKoers : Bulletin for Christian Scholarship, 2000
On how jurists work with texts ... and texts with them. Some thoughts on postmodemising Christian-Reformational legal thinking. In this article it is argued that postmodern, Christian-Reformational legal scholarship is possible, in principle, and indeed ...

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Maintaining Source Language in Translating Holy Book: A Case of Translating Al-Qur‟an into Indonesian [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Translation involves two or more languages in practice. This undoubtedly activates the conflict between the source and target language. When translator tries to help readers understand fully the concept of the source text, he will sacrifice the source ...

Time‐Dependent Oxidation and Scale Evolution of a Wrought Co/Ni‐Based Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows how a new wrought Co/Ni‐based superalloy resists oxidation at 800 ∘$^\circ$C. The oxide scale changes from rough, fast‐growing spinel to a dense, protective chromia–alumina layer. Atom probe analysis reveals tiny refractory‐rich bubbles at the interface that mark the transition to long‐term, diffusion‐controlled protection ...

Evaluating Computational Language Models with Scaling Properties of Natural Language

open access: yesComputational Linguistics, 2019
In this article, we evaluate computational models of natural language with respect to the universal statistical behaviors of natural language. Statistical mechanical analyses have revealed that natural language text is characterized by scaling properties,

Numerical Exploration of Thermal Shock Resistance in MgO–C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A mesostructure‐resolved numerical framework is developed to evaluate the thermal shock resistance of MgO–C refractories. By modeling interface debonding under rapid temperature changes and introducing a modified thermal shock parameter that accounts for mesocracks, the study shows how graphite content and aggregate size influence thermal shock ...
