Joint Handwritten Text Recognition and Word Classification for Tabular Information Extraction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
In this paper, we present a system for extracting tabular information from loosely structured handwritten documents. The system consists of three parts, (i) a u-net like CNN-based method for text detection and segmentation, (ii) a new attention-based ...

Text Matching as Image Recognition

open access: yesProceedings of the AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence, 2016
Matching two texts is a fundamental problem in many natural language processing tasks. An effective way is to extract meaningful matching patterns from words, phrases, and sentences to produce the matching score. Inspired by the success of convolutional neural network in image recognition, where neurons can capture many complicated ...

Personality Traits Recognition in Literary Texts [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Second Workshop on Storytelling, 2019
Interesting stories often are built around interesting characters. Finding and detailing what makes an interesting character is a real challenge, but certainly a significant cue is the character personality traits. Our exploratory work tests the adaptability of the current personality traits theories to literal characters, focusing on the analysis of ...

Task Grouping for Multilingual Text Recognition

open access: yes, 2023
Most existing OCR methods focus on alphanumeric characters due to the popularity of English and numbers, as well as their corresponding datasets. On extending the characters to more languages, recent methods have shown that training different scripts with different recognition heads can greatly improve the end-to-end recognition accuracy compared to ...

Context Driven Text Segmentation and Recognition [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
A segmentation algorithm is presented within a text recognition system. The output of an OCR system and the contextual analysis based on the dictionary method are used jointly to segment a line of text.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.
