NUSS: An R package for mixed N-grams and unigram sequence segmentation

open access: yesSoftwareX
NUSS is an R package for segmenting compound text sequences, such as hashtags, using a dual strategy that integrates n-gram segmentation with unigram sequence segmentation.

An Algorithm for Scene Text Detection Using Multibox and Semantic Segmentation

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
An outside mutual correction (OMC) algorithm for natural scene text detection using multibox and semantic segmentation was developed. In the OMC algorithm, semantic segmentation and multibox were processed in parallel, and the text detection results were

Combining Three Peripheral Blood Biomarkers to Stratify Rheumatoid Arthritis‐Associated Interstitial Lung Disease Risk

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective The purpose was to evaluate a biomarker score consisting of MUC5B rs35705950 promoter variant, plasma matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)‐7, and serum anti‐malondialdehyde‐acetaldehyde (anti‐MAA) antibody for RA‐associated interstitial lung disease risk stratification. Methods Using a multicenter cohort of US veterans with RA, we performed a cross‐

Multi-paragraph segmentation of expository text [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 32nd annual meeting on Association for Computational Linguistics -, 1994
This paper describes TextTiling, an algorithm for partitioning expository texts into coherent multi-paragraph discourse units which reflect the subtopic structure of the texts. The algorithm uses domain-independent lexical frequency and distribution information to recognize the interactions of multiple simultaneous themes.

Differential Item Functioning on the Patient Health Questionnaire‐8 by Disease Subtype, Language, Sex, and Age among People with Systemic Sclerosis: A Scleroderma Patient‐centered Intervention Network Cohort Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective Somatic items used in depression assessments can potentially overlap with symptoms related to physical illness, including systemic sclerosis (SSc). No studies have looked at whether somatic depression items may be influenced by diffuse versus limited SSc disease subtypes, which are associated with varying degrees of symptom presentation.

Text Extraction from Web Images Based on A Split-and-Merge Segmentation Method Using Color Perception

open access: yes, 2004
This paper describes a complete approach to the segmentation and extraction of text from Web images for subsequent recognition, to ultimately achieve both effective indexing and presentation by non-visual means (e.g., audio).

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Automated text processing: topic segmentation of educational texts

open access: yesVestnik of Samara State Technical University Psychological and Pedagogical Sciences, 2019
The article explores the problem of automatic quantitative assessment of text complexity and thematic segmentation of texts. The authors offer a brief description of the state of affairs in this area including the fact that the existing formulas for text readability index are genredependent and lose their reliability when used for texts of other genres.

Geometric Optimization and Mechanical Performance Enhancement of Auxetic Structures for High‐Impact Applications Through Fused Deposition Modeling

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the mechanical performance of three auxetic structures, identifying a re‐entrant‐star hybrid as the most effective for impact absorption. Finite element simulations and experiments demonstrate significant gains in energy absorption and flexural strength after geometric optimization. This study investigates the mechanical performance
