Segmentation of color textures

IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 2000
This paper describes an approach to perceptual segmentation of color image textures. A multiscale representation of the texture image, generated by a multiband smoothing algorithm based on human psychophysical measurements of color appearance is used as the input.

Texture Segmentation by Genetic Programming

Evolutionary Computation, 2008
This paper describes a texture segmentation method using genetic programming (GP), which is one of the most powerful evolutionary computation algorithms. By choosing an appropriate representation texture, classifiers can be evolved without computing texture features.

Picture Segmentation by Texture Discrimination

IEEE Transactions on Computers, 1975
This correspondence describes a method of dividing a picture into differently textured regions by thresholding the values of a suitable local picture property. The approach used is a generalization to natural textures of a technique recently proposed by Tsuji. The examples given involve textures that differ in coarseness; a method of estimating texture

Segmentation by Texture Using Correlation

IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 1983
The correlation coefficients are used for segmentation according to texture. They are first evaluated on a set of square regions forming two levels of the quadratic picture tree (or pyramid). If the coefficients of a square and its four children in the tree are similar, then that region is considered to be of uniform texture.

Texture Based Segmentation

2006
The ability of human observers to discriminate between textures is related to the contrast between key structural elements and their repeating patterns. Here we have developed an automatic texture classification approach based on this principle. Local contrast information is modelled and a hybrid metric, based on probability density distributions and ...

Hierarchical texture segmentation

1997
We present a new hierarchical texture segmentation method that partitions an image into textured regions. A textured region is viewed as a set of uniformly distributed primitives. A primitive is a region with constant gray values. Gray values within a primitive can be corrupted by noise.

Boundary localization in texture segmentation

IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 1995
Localizing boundaries between textured image regions without sacrificing the labeling accuracy of interior regions remains a problem in segmentation. Difficulties arise because of the conflicting requirements of localization and labeling. Boundary localization usually demands observing the features over small neighborhoods, whereas labeling accuracy ...

Quaternion color texture segmentation

Computer Vision and Image Understanding, 2007
The quaternion representation of color is shown here to be effective in the context of segmenting color images into regions of similar color texture. The advantage of using quaternion arithmetic is that a color can be represented and analyzed as a single entity.

Moment based texture segmentation

Proceedings., 11th IAPR International Conference on Pattern Recognition. Vol. IV. Conference D: Architectures for Vision and Pattern Recognition,, 1994
Abstract Texture segmentation is one of the early steps towards identifying surfaces and objects in an image. In this paper a moment-based texture segmentation algorithm is presented. The moments in small windows of the image are used as texture features which are then used to segment the textures.

A fuzzy approach to texture segmentation

International Conference on Information Technology: Coding and Computing, 2004. Proceedings. ITCC 2004., 2004
The texture segmentation techniques are diversified by the existence of several approaches. In this paper, we propose fuzzy features for the segmentation of texture image. For this purpose, a membership function is constructed to represent the effect of the neighboring pixels on the current pixel in a window.
