Prediction of Surface Topography Parameters in Direct Laser Interference Patterning of Stainless Steel Using Infrared Monitoring and Convolutional Neural Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents an infrared monitoring approach for direct laser interference patterning (DLIP) combined with a convolutional neural network (CNN). Thermal emission data captured during structuring are used to predict surface topography parameters.

Rayleigh analysis of dielectric properties in textured K0.5Na0.5NbO3 ceramics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Grain texturing is a known method of exploiting the intrinsic dielectric and piezoelectric anisotropy in ferroelectric ceramics. However, the role of crystallographic texture on anisotropic extrinsic contributions including domain wall motion is not yet ...

Sintering densification driven by orientation fluctuation in textured BaTiO3 ceramics with abnormal comprehensive ferroelectric properties

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Ceramics
A new sintering densification method without the aid of a liquid phase is proposed for preparing [001]c-textured BaTiO3 ceramics with high ferroelectric performance.

Porous textured ceramics with controlled grain size and orientation

open access: yes, 2021
Texture in dense or porous ceramics can enhance their functional and structural properties. Current methods for texturation employ anisotropic particles as starting powders and processes that drive their orientation into specific directions.

Zein‐Based Adhesives: Sustainable Extraction and Application in Bioadhesive Technologies

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Zein is extracted from corn gluten meal using a simple and scalable process with high yield (~90%). The resulting protein is applied in bioadhesives modified with Ca2+ and Fe3+ ions, exhibiting substrate‐dependent adhesion. The findings demonstrate competitive bonding performance and highlight the role of ionic interactions in tuning adhesion ...

Lead-Free Textured Ceramics with Ultrahigh Piezoelectric Properties by Synergistic Design

open access: yes, 2023
Lead-free ceramics with superior piezoelectric performance are highly desirable in various electromechanical applications. Unfortunately, it is still challenging to achieve significantly enhanced piezoelectricity without sacrificing the Curie temperature

Microstructural Evolution and Vacancy Defect Formation in Mn–Mo–Ni RPV Steel Under Low Cycle Fatigue: Insights From EBSD and PALS

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐cycle fatigue damage in Mn–Mo–Ni reactor pressure vessel steel is examined using a combined electron backscatter diffraction and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy approach. The study correlates texture evolution, dislocation substructure development, and vacancy‐type defect formation across uniform, necked, and fracture regions, providing

Thermomechanical Fatigue and Creep–Fatigue Interaction of Inconel 718 Additively Manufactured by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated
