An In‐Depth Analysis of Liquid Level Measurement Techniques and Performance Evaluation Using Computational Fluid Dynamics

open access: yesJournal of Sensors, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Liquid level measurement (LLM) systems are extensively used in industry. Although most liquid measurement systems are based on indirect measurement, flow‐based monitoring is the most used secondary measuring technique for LLM. A comprehensive review of the existing LLM techniques including optical, image‐based, capacitive, and float sensors is ...

Exciting Surface Plasmon Resonances on Gold Thin Film‐Coated Optical Fibers Through Nanoparticle Light Scattering

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, Volume 12, Issue 25, September 3, 2024.
Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) typically occurs at the interface of a thin metallic film and a dielectric medium in fiber optics. This work presents evidence of nanoparticle‐induced SPR (NPI‐SPR) in optical fibers through light scattering from Au nanoparticles on the thin metallic film.

Nano‐Photonic Crystal D‐Shaped Fiber Devices for Label‐Free Biosensing at the Attomolar Limit of Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 11, Issue 35, September 18, 2024.
An exceptionally low limit of detection is attained using stack of high and low refractive index nano‐layers, instead of single layer approach as for SPR or similar, deposited on D‐shaped single‐mode fibers. This configuration enables to overcome a longstanding trade‐off between sensitivity and figure of merit, thus envisaging optical resonances with ...

Fiber Optic Vibration Sensor Based on the Tilted Fiber Bragg Grating

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2013
A temperature-insensitive fiber optic vibration sensor based on the tilted fiber Bragg grating (TFBG) is presented. The sensing head is formed by insertion of a small section of MMF between a single-mode fiber and the TFBG. The reflection light from this

TFBGs in polyimide-coated optical fibers for multi-parameter measurements

open access: yesOptics Express
Tilted fiber Bragg gratings (TFBGs) contain core and cladding modes and can be used to measure several environmental parameters. However, most of the research to date has focused on stripped single-mode fiber while the preservation of the coating can be highly relevant in practice, especially in harsh environments.
