Compositional analysis of thermoplastic wood composites by TGA

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 2004
AbstractA method has been developed for the quantitative determination of the composition of thermoplastic wood composites. The method involves area measurements of the two peaks in the derivative curve of a tracing produced by the thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) of a thermoplastic composites sample in an inert atmosphere.

Starch retrogradation studied by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA)

Carbohydrate Polymers, 2011
Abstract Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) as an analytical method to follow retrogradation properties of rice starch was investigated in this study. Our results showed that the bound water content (M b ) of retrograded starch samples was significantly increased with the increasing of storage time.

High pressure TGA analysis of crude oils

Thermochimica Acta, 1996
A high pressure thermogravimetric analyser (HPTGA) has been used to explore the effect of total pressure (100, 200 and 300 psig) on the combustion behaviour and kinetics of crude oils. In combustion with air, three different reaction regions were identified, known as low-temperature oxidation, fuel deposition and high temperature oxidation.

TGA analysis of polypropylene–carbon nanofibers composites

Polymer Degradation and Stability, 2008
Abstract TGA investigations on the thermal degradation of isotactic polypropylene–vapor grown carbon nanofibers composites in nitrogen are reported. The mass evolution as a function of temperature is a single sigmoid for both polypropylene and polypropylene loaded with carbon nanofibers.

Analysis of FGD Solids With a Macro TGA System

Journal of Testing and Evaluation, 2017
Abstract Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) is an analytical technique in which changes in physical and chemical properties of materials are measured as a function of temperature and/or time. TGA is commonly used to determine selected characteristics of materials that exhibit either mass loss, or gain, because of decomposition, oxidation ...

An algorithm for the Reich-Stivala analysis of TGA curves

Computers & Chemistry, 1982
Abstract Thermogravimetric analysis provides the most direct method of carrying out nonisothermal kinetic studies. Reich and Stivala have described an iterative method for determining the reaction order and activation energy from TGA curves. Using the temperature (°C) and deflection of the mass curve as direct input, an algorithm for this method has ...

Analysis of pyrite by TGA/high resolution evolved gas analysis

SPIE Proceedings, 1994
The advantages of Thermal Gravimetric Analysis/Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (TGA/FT-IR) for material characterization has been successfully demonstrated by the analytical chemist. This hyphenated technique has generally been utilized for assigning evolved gases to the detected weight losses of the material as it is being heated.

A comparative study of different methods for the analysis of TGA curves

Computers & Chemistry, 1986
Abstract Kinetic parameters such as the reaction order, n , activation energy, Ea , and the preexponential factor, Z , are calculated from the thermogravimetric curve. Five different methods viz. Freeman and Carroll, Piloyan and Novikava, Horowitz and Metzger, Coats and Redfern, and Reich and Stivala, have been compared for determining the ...

The combined use of DSC and TGA for the thermal analysis of atenolol tablets

Journal of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Analysis, 1995
The New York Regional Laboratory's forensic pharmaceutical group used thermal analysis (TA) to ensure adherence to batch formulations by drug manufacturers. TA in our laboratory consisted of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). DSC and TGA were used to analyse finished dosage forms and their components.

Analysis of the combustion and pyrolysis of dried sewage sludge by TGA and MS

Waste Management, 2014
In this study, the combustion and pyrolysis processes of three sewage sludge were investigated. The sewage sludge came from three wastewater treatment plants. Proximate and ultimate analyses were performed. The thermal behaviour of studied sewage sludge was investigated by thermogravimetric analysis with mass spectrometry (TGA-MS).
