Twisting the End Game: How Telomere Chromatin Modifications Shape Telomere Maintenance

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 9, September 2026.
Chromatin modifications on telomeres are linked to the mode of telomere DNA replication. A coupled feedforward loop model is proposed based on these to lock the ALT cancer cells in this alternative mode of telomere replication. ABSTRACT Cell division inevitably shortens telomeric DNA owing to the end‐replication problem.

Posaconazole Target Attainment in Critically Ill Children: A 15‐Year Single‐Center Retrospective Analysis

open access: yesClinical and Translational Science, Volume 19, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Posaconazole is a triazole antifungal agent used for prophylaxis and treatment of invasive fungal diseases. Posaconazole has high inter‐individual variability in dose‐exposure relationship and benefits from therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM). Adult studies report particularly high rates of subtherapeutic exposure among intensive care unit (ICU)

Quantitative analysis of DNA‐GATA1 binding alterations linked to hematopoietic disorders

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 293, Issue 17, Page 5149-5169, September 2026.
Native holdup allows the quantitative determination of affinities between full‐length transcription factors and DNA. Mutations in either the protein or the DNA can modulate binding strength, which can be precisely quantified using this approach. Applied to GATA1, it revealed mutations that alter DNA binding.

Leg Ulcers in Thalassaemia: A Comparative Retrospective Review of Transfusion‐Dependent and Non‐Transfusion‐Dependent Patients

open access: yesInternational Wound Journal, Volume 23, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT To compare clinical and laboratory characteristics of transfusion‐dependent and non‐transfusion‐dependent beta thalassaemia patients with leg ulcers, and to identify contributing and protective factors We retrospectively reviewed 12 patients with beta thalassaemia and leg ulcers (seven transfusion‐dependent and five non‐transfusion‐dependent ...

Perioperative Transfusion Trigger Score Versus Restrictive Transfusion in Older Non‐Cardiac Surgery Patients: A Multicenter Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesJournal of the American Geriatrics Society, Volume 74, Issue 9, Page 2564-2572, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Restrictive transfusion (Hb < 7 g/dL) is recommended for most perioperative patients, but the optimal threshold for those with cardiovascular disease or Hb 7–10 g/dL remains uncertain. The Perioperative Transfusion Trigger Score (POTTS), which integrates adrenaline requirement, FiO2, temperature, and angina history, may standardize ...
