The Dinaric Mountains are a mountain range stretching NW–SE from the Alps to the Albanides–Hellenides in central Europe. The highest parts were occupied by small ice fields and/or valley glaciers during the Quaternary cold periods, while even today some small glaciers still exist in topoclimatically favourable areas.

Abstract Replicated pairs of ancestral and evolutionarily derived populations provide opportunities to test hypotheses about the deterministic laws of evolution. We conducted the first radio‐tracking study on Osmoderma barnabita to examine the movement ecology and habitat selection in the Eastern Carpathians. A female recorded the longest movement distance and had larger home ranges than males. It showed a preference for Quercus petraea, with wood mould cavities and DBH as key predictors.
